Greetings!,

Twelve years ago, I opened my shop in Great Falls, VA. Today, I rely on a wonderful staff to handle the retail space as well as keep our web business humming. You can visit the studio online to see pictures and learn more about the shop and our staff. But this month, I'd like to introduce you to Jane Allingham, our customer service manager, head of our mail order department and one of the people you're likely to talk with when you call us.

Jane began quilting in 1977 while still at the University of Kansas. She loves all aspects of quilting (and knitting and embroidery!) Prior to her move with her family to Northern Virginia in 2004, she was active in the Tulsa, OK quilt guild. We are very happy that Jane took down her attorney's shingle and decided that quilting and working at the Studio were a lot more fun. The chaos, camaraderie, creative activity -- and cookie time every day at 3:00 -- must agree with her because she has been working at the Studio for 8 years.

I hope you enjoy this month's newsletter -- there are lots of new quilt kits, free patterns and a special sale notice.  Don't miss it!

New Border Prints, Kits & Free Patterns
A sample of the fabrics from the new Bordering on Brilliance II collection.
My latest fabric collection is now arriving at quilt shops all over the world, including my Studio in Great Falls, VA.

Bordering on Brilliance II is a collection of sixteen border print fabrics.  There are four different fabric designs, each rendered in four colorways. I've re-invented some recent favorites and created some brand new prints.

The fabrics are available by the yard and in fat quarter bundles.

I created three projects featuring the fabrics from the collection. The patterns are free downloads and kits are ready to ship, too.

And if border prints are new to you, don't miss my videos showing you how to incorporate them into your quilt blocks.

May Baskets Quilts
May Baskets
is a classic basket design made completely new using border prints. The border print fabric is featured in three ways: it frames the entire quilt; it is fussy cut to make the baskets; and identical triangles are pieced together to make high-impact alternate blocks and setting triangles. You get a tremendous amount of design "oomph" with this single fabric.

I've created two different colorways -- teal and rose.

Medallion Table Runner features shaded strips and border print accents in two ways: first, the ends of the runner are accented with a decorative strip of the narrow border print stripe; and second, the center block is a simple medallion made from four identical triangles of the wide border print stripe.  It's an easy and very elegant project.

The free pattern features the two color options shown above and kits are available in a total of four colorways.

Border Print Place Mat is a perennial favorite. Just one-half yard of border print, cut into six pieces, makes a place mat.

This is a great first project if you've never worked with border prints before, and I've updated the pattern to feature some of the new fabric. Choose your favorite border print and away you go!

Exploring the Swatch Wall at jinnybeyer.com
Have you tried the Swatch Wall on jinnybeyer.com?  If you're shopping for coordinating fabrics, it's a great way to see how they'll look together.

When viewing a fabric, click on the blue Add to Swatch Wall link under the fabric image to add it to the Swatch Wall.

When you're ready to do a little playing, click on the Swatch Wall button at the top of the screen, just above the Search box. The Swatch Wall will contain samples of all the fabrics you added to the Wall.  You can drag them around, hide or delete selected swatches, and add the ones you like to your basket. It's a fun way to get a better sense of how well the fabrics you're considering will "play together".

Shenandoah Baskets - Month 9
This month's downloadable pattern is for White Oak Basket. The flower in this month's basket is made from a classic diamond shape, with four smaller diamonds making up each larger piece. As always, different portions of the border print fabric enhance the basket itself.

If you're just joining the program, there's no need to worry about catching up. In addition to this month's block, the download link below will give you access to all the materials we've shared so far.

Shenandoah Baskets Combo
Shenandoah Baskets is available with dark or light backgrounds. The optional floral appliqué is
shown on the light version.

(They are all Adobe PDF files so you must have the free Adobe Reader installed on your computer to view them.)

Remember that the only way to access the free download page is through this email. So, if you don't download the patterns immediately, be sure to save this email. The link below will be active until the next newsletter goes out.
