Greetings!,

Why is it that even if it's 90 degrees out, by the end of August it feels as if summer is winding down? And why is it that the year you plant twice as many edamame plants as ever before (because the bunnies always eat it), the bunnies leave it alone? Today, I packed away nine quarts. That's a lot of edamame!

I'm happy to announce that we've got three new videos on border prints posted to our newly redesigned Tips & Lessons page. Please take a look -- I think you'll find them both inspirational and full of how-tos.

I also wanted to let you know that we are now offering my favorite quilt batting online at jinnybeyer.com. Quilters Dream is made right here in Virginia and the Request loft is the one I use in my quilts.

Are you a fan of the Studio on Facebook?  If not, you're missing out on lots of fun postings from the Studio and from quilters like you. Marlene Oddie posted that she used my book, A Quilter's Album of Patchwork Patterns, to help her draft a feathered star block using EQ7. Read her blog to see how she did it! Then click the Facebook button below so you don't miss out on other posts like this one.

Last, but certainly not least, don't forget to check out our local shop hop, Quilter's Quest. It takes place November 9 - 18. If you'll be in the Washington, D.C. area during that time, I really encourage you to join us on the Quest.

 Redesigned Tips & Lessons Page
We've completely re-worked the look and feel of the Tips & Lessons page on our website.  I think it's so much easier to use.

Category tabs make it easy to navigate through the sections, and thumbnail images and brief descriptions for each tip give you a hint of what's inside.  New items are highlighted, and video tips are marked with a little icon and given their own tab.
Check out the new Tips & Lessons page.

And do you have a question for me or a tip you'd like me to share?  Send a message to me via the email below.  I can't answer all the questions I receive, but I do my best to publish responses to those that I think will interest you all.

Working with Border Prints: Three Brand-New Videos
For decades I have been teaching quilters how to put border print fabrics to creative use in their projects. We've always had tips on our website but there's nothing like seeing it in person.

I'm pleased to announce that we have three new videos on working with border prints on our website.

An Introduction to Border Prints gives you the basics, covering wide and narrow stripes, seam allowances, identifying mirror-image design motifs, and calculating yardage.

Magical Effects with Border Prints shows you how easy it is to get special effects in your quilts just by fussy cutting border print patches.  This one will give you lots of ideas!

Framing a Quilt with Border Print Fabric steps you through my no-math method of making border print borders for your quilt. You'll learn an easy way to miter the corners and learn the secret of getting the design to flow without interruption around the corners on both square and rectangular quilts.

Check out the new videos on Working with Border Print Fabrics.

Shenandoah Baskets - Month 8
Month 8 This month's downloadable pattern is for Cane Basket. A narrow slice of border print accents the top and base of this lovely basket. Plus you'll use an easy partial seam technique to avoid having to sew some inset seams!

This is the tenth block in our quilt -- only three more to go!

If you're just joining the program, there's no need to worry about catching up. In addition to this month's blocks, the download link below will give you access to all the materials we've shared so far.

Shenandoah Baskets Combo
Shenandoah Baskets is available with dark or light backgrounds. The optional floral appliqué is
shown on the light version.

(They are all Adobe PDF files so you must have the free Adobe Reader installed on your computer to view them.)

Remember that the only way to access the free download page is through this email. So, if you don't download the patterns immediately, be sure to save this email. The link below will be active until the next newsletter goes out.
