Greetings!,

We have an abbreviated newsletter for you this month.

Last week, our area was hit with a massive storm.  As I write this, I (and hundreds of thousands in the area) have been without power for a week. The Studio was closed for days as we were without air conditioning (it's been 95°+ every day), lights, internet and even running water!

Since I'm reduced to stealing moments of internet access at coffee shops and the library, I haven't been able to put together our usual information-packed newsletter.  I promise we'll make it up to you next month!

In the meantime, I offer you a look at a hidden gem on our website, some news about our local quilt shop hop (I'm sponsoring a bus!), as well as the latest block pattern in our 2012 BOM, Shenandoah Baskets.

Last but not least, I'd like to welcome all our new subscribers from Quilters' Club of America.  Enjoy!

Ray of Light, 1977
For each fabric collection I design, I also create a quilt featuring those fabrics. But I've always created quilts that I think of as my "personal quilts".

One of my earliest quilts, "Ray of Light" won the Good Housekeeping and U.S. Historical Society contest for The Great American Quilt award in 1977. That really started me on my career as an author and quiltmaker.

Perhaps equally well known is "Windows", which I made in 2001/2002 as my response to the events of September 11 in New York and Washington, D.C.

You can see these two quilts, and 17 others, in my personal quilt gallery on my website. I hope you enjoy looking at them. (When viewing the quilt details, be sure to click on the quilt photo for a larger image.)

Shenandoah Baskets - Month 6
This month's downloadable pattern is for Birch Baskets.

The block is the center block of the quilt. It features just the narrowest stripe along the top and base of the basket, plus a pretty foundation-pieced handle.  The flowers are optional, but the appliqué sure adds a lovely touch.

If you're just joining the program, there's no need to worry about catching up. In addition to this month's blocks, the download link below will give you access to all the materials we've shared so far.

Shenandoah Baskets Combo
Shenandoah Baskets is available with dark or light backgrounds. The optional floral appliqué is
shown on the light version.

(They are all Adobe PDF files so you must have the free Adobe Reader installed on your computer to view them.)

Remember that the only way to access the free download page is through this email. So, if you don't download the patterns immediately, be sure to save this email. The link below will be active until the next newsletter goes out.
