Greetings!

Interest is very high for our new block-of-the-month quilt, Jinny's Journey, and I'm delighted about that. Thousands of subscribers downloaded the first pattern and the second is ready to go.

This newsletter also:
  • includes links to more freebies on our website;
  • introduces a splashy new fabric line and quilt, Summer Lily;
  • and answers a subscriber's question about "scant" seam allowances.
We'd also like to get your opinion on using Facebook to keep in touch. Click the link below to answer our one-question poll.
Would you be interested in a Jinny Beyer Studio Facebook page?

Enjoy!

Adding Fabrics to Swatch Wall

 The Swatch Wall will contain samples of all the fabrics you added to the Wall.  You can drag them around, hide or delete selected swatches, and add the ones you like to your basket. It's a fun way to find coordinating fabrics.

New Summer Lily Fabrics, Kit & Free Pattern
Summer Lily inspirationMy  Summer Lily fabric collection is now available in quilt shops and through our website. This is a mini-collection of sixteen fabrics in vibrant colors -- the fat quarter bundles are proving very popular.  The photo of the flower inspired the collection's colors and the quilt I designed to showcase the fabrics.

The Summer Lily quilt kit is now shipping, and the free pattern is also available to download from the website.  The quilt is made by cutting strip-sets into over-sized triangular or diamond units and the templates for those units are quite large.  The quilt pattern includes templates which you can copy and enlarge, but we also decided to offer full-size templates as an additional option for those of you who like the convenience and accuracy.

Ask Jinny:  What's a Scant Seam Allowance & Should I Be Using One?
Sheila from Spring, Texas emailed me the following:

Jinny, I'm working on a pre-cut block of the month quilt and the instructions call for a scant 1/4-inch seam allowance. If I hand piece rather than machine, do I need to worry about the "scant" part? If I do need to worry about it, how do I achieve it?

Testing Seam AllowanceThis is a terrific question that applies to both machine and hand piecers. And it has come up recently in the Studio as we tested both the Summer Lily and Jinny's Journey patterns.

The short answer is that if a pattern tells you to use a scant seam allowance, there's definitely a reason. There is a good chance that it has to do with the measurements used for cutting block patches . . . but you may find that a scant seam allowance helps you sew blocks more accurately no matter if the pattern calls for it or not!  Read my full reply to Sheila in the Ask Jinny! section on the website.

Have a question for me? Send it to askjinny@jinnybeyer.com and we'll consider it for an upcoming newsletter.
