  The First Week of Advent:

The Coming of the Son of Man

Jesus said,

"There will be signs in the sun, the moon, and the stars, and on the earth distress among nations confused by the roaring of the sea and the waves.  People will faint from fean and foreboding of what is coming upon the world, for the powers of the heavens will be shaken.  Then they will see 'the Son of Man coming in a cloud' with power and great glory.  Now when these thing begin to take place, stand up and raise your heads, because your redemption is drawing near."

Exhortation to Watch

"Be on guard so that your hearts are not weighed down with dissipation and drunkenness and the worries of this life, and that day catch you unexpectedly, like a trap.  for it will come upon all who live on the face of the whole earth.  Be alert at all times, praying that you may have the strength to escape all these things that will take place, and to stand before the Son of Man."

 Luke 21:27, 34:36

 West Valley In Our Community

THANK YOU FROM TJ HS ADMINISTRATIVE TEAM

(The following is a transcription of a letter sent to Youth Pastor, Brandon Tonseth from Paul D. Nichols & the TJ Administrative Team)

Education is not an activity that occurs exclusively behind the closed doors of a classroom.  It is not a recurring, isolated experience occurring on the clock over a pre-designated period of time.  It is far broader than that.  It is an activity whose reach is generational.  It is an activity whose doors make access for its clientele to the windows of the world.  It is a communal activity requiring the support of all who are affiliated with our student body.

We want to thank you, Brandon, and the entire Board of the West Valley Community Church for supporting us in our second, TJ Administrative Tea.  Your willingness to host this event for our school community is greatly appreciated as it allowed us to reach a portion of our constituents we, otherwise, would not have reached.  Your display of hospitality also mirrors our mission of striving "to create a better world through intercultural understanding and respect;" as one of the functions of these events is: to foster a relationship with as many as possible of the family sectors at Thomas Jefferson High School.

We believe everyone in attendance from the Thomas Jefferson High School had a wonderful time meeting and greeting all guests in attendance.  According to their reports, we felt that parents also had an experience that was beneficial to them in some way.

Thanks again - and, we look forward to working with you in the future!

Two new books have entered our library.  LONGING, the third book in the Bailey Flanigan series by Karen Kingsbury has arrived.

BREAKFAST AT SALLY'S by Richard LeMieux was written during an 18 month homeless period when he was living in his van in the Poulsbo area.  "Sally's" refers to the Salvation Army soup kitchen around which much of his life revolved.  After reading his story you will never look at the homeless in the same way.  I met him this week at the Operation Nightwatch fundraiser luncheon.  He is full of life and compassion for the homeless.

The Christmas books are out now and there are many inspirational and interesting stories waiting to be read - adult and children both.  Look on the library table at the back of the church.                -Kathleen Thomas

One Minute Meditation

For the First Week of Advent

"Jesus said to his disciples: 'Be constantly on the watch! Stay awake!...You do not know when the Master of the house is coming.'"

                                Mark. 13:33

O Jesus, your voice sounds through the house of my world: Be on your guard! Stay awake!

Yet I hardly hear you. Busy with so much, I go about the things I do like a servant trapped in household routine, hardly giving a thought to what my life is about. My spirit within has grown tired and you, my God, seem far away. How can I hear your voice today?

Speak to my heart during this season of grace, as you spoke to your prophets and saints. Remind me again of the journey you call me to make and the work you would have me do. I am your servant, O Lord. Speak to me in this holy season and turn my eyes to watch for your coming.

O Emmanuel, Jesus Christ,

desire of every nation,
Savior of all peoples,
Come and dwell among us.

Amen.
