Friendship. Everyone needs a friend. A friend is someone who knows all about us-our good points and bad-and yet, still loves us. True friends enjoy each other's company and want to spend time together. David knew about true friendship:
"If you wake your friend in the early morning by shouting, 'Rise and shine!', it will sound to him more like a curse than a blessing."
"Reliable friends who do what they say are like cool drinks in sweltering heat-refreshing."
Of course, our dearest friend is God. David had a deep and abiding friendship with God and writes of it often:
"God-friendship is for God-worshipers; They are the ones He can confide in. Question: What are God-worshipers like? Answer: Arrows aimed at God's bull's-eye. God loves all who hate evil, and those who love Him he keeps safe. God keeps an eye on his friends, His ears pick up every moan and groan. Disciples so often get in trouble; Still God is there every time. He's your bodyguard, shielding every bone. Not even a finger gets broken.
So, God, you have always been there for me. Don't turn your back on me now. Take me by the hand. Lead me down the path of truth.
So God's people, shout praise to God! Give thanks to our Holy God!"
