Fear is very real in most people's lives. We fear sickness, loneliness, poverty, and death, as well as other things. The only way to be released from our fears is to put our trust in the Lord. David was aware of this and expressed it many times in his "Saws":
"When I get really afraid, God, I come to you in trust. I'm proud to praise you, God. What can mere mortals do?"
"God is a safe place to hide, ready to help when we need Him. We stand fearless at the cliff-edge of doom. There is no such thing as self-rescue, pulling yourselves up by your bootstraps. Call on God; He will help you. So why should I fear in bad times? With God on my side, I'm fearless, afraid of no one and nothing. Even when the way goes through Death Valley, I'm not afraid when God walks by my side."
"God, you always meet me more than halfway. You free me from my anxious fears. When I am desperate I call on you, and you get me out of a tight spot. You are my refuge. I trust in you and I am safe-you rescue me from hidden traps, and shield me from deadly hazards. Your huge outstretched arms protect me; Under them I am perfectly safe. With you on my side I am fearless."
Thank you, God, for your divine protection.
