From Our Pastor Emeritus, Clio Thomas

Pastor Clio Thomas serves as "Area Director" for the Asia/Pacific mission field of the Advent Christian Denomination. One of his duties is to encourage mission workers in a variety of settings throughout Asia. The following is a weekly installment of his letter, sent literally around the world to those in his charge.

JESUS, SON OF MAN

One of the titles of Jesus in the NT is Son of Man.  It is interesting that this is the name , or title, which is used most by Jesus Himself.  Over twenty times in the four Gospels this name is used by Him.

Let us think back to the beginning of everything, way way back before any of us were born....back to when God created everything.  The Bible tells us that God spoke and things came into being.  God said let there be light and He created the sun and moon and stars.  He created the heavens and the earth....all the animals, all the fish, all the trees, the birds, all the flowers, and then He created people Adam and Eve and told them to have children and take care of this wonderful creation.  But down through the years people didn't do a very good job of managing things.  They fought with each other, killed each other, and didn't do a good job of caring for this wonderful creation.  So, God decided to do something about it.

One-Minute Meditations
MeditationIn order to survive, we must have food. In addition, we must have spiritual food. The Bible calls Jesus the "Bread of Life". The Bible is our spiritual food and we must "feed" upon it to grow in our faith and devotion to God. It is more than a book to impart knowledge. The Bible reveals our need for a Savior. It is our Guide Book for daily living and gives answers for life's needs.

In his "Saws", David speaks of our source of spiritual food in different terms. He talks of it as being served at an elegant banquet. "You serve me a six-course dinner right in front of my enemies. God, who gets invited to Your place? How do they get on the guest list?":
"Walk straight, act right, tell the truth."
"Don't hurt your friend, don't blame your neighbor: despise the despicable."
"Keep your word even when it costs you. Make an honest living, never take a bribe."
"You'll never get blacklisted if you live like this!"

Thank you, Lord, for the food you provide. We can eat our fill at the banquet you spread.

Women's Ministry Spring Retreat
May 2011
Planning has begun for the Spring Retreat. It will be the weekend after Mother's Day this year. We will not be going to Oak Harbor as in the past and the cost will be a little more this year. I am trying to get the word out so we can save our money and find ways to get the ladies to this retreat. It has been a real blessing in my life and would encourage you to consider this retreat. The cost this year will be approximately $90.00. If you have questions come see me.
