Harvest Celebration October 24 Remember the great times we had at this year's church family picnic? Neither does anyone else! That's because we had to cancel on account of rain. So we've rescheduled the event and, instead of a picnic in the park, we will host a day of fun activities at the church, including "fair fare" (carnival-type food) and games. Mark your calendars and plan to be at the church for an afternoon of fellowship and fun, and please plan to bring a salad or dessert to share with the rest of us.

Family Hour Our Sunday morning family hours continue to be fun as well as educational. Meeting at 9:45 for a great breakfast cooked by our youth, we begin our lesson and activity at 10:15. This fall we've been discussing Noah, so one week we made "arks" from graham crackers and frosting. Last week we paired up in twos to make animals from clay. As you can see from the photos, all ages are involved in the lessons, and this time provides a great opportunity for our church to meet three of its core values: 1. Families and youth are ministered to; 2. Relationships are nurtured; 3. Everyone is involved. In addition to that, many young people today have such little exposure to God's Word that they don't even know who Noah is! We often take such knowledge for granted, but, if we don't teach them about Noah, who will?

Children's Church Awards
Congratulations to Owen Tonseth, AllenaMae Dodd and Sam Dodd. This summer, during Children's Church, they successfully memorized all the books of the Bible in order. As an award for this accomplishment each was given a new Bible during the worship service this past Sunday. Good job kids and Children's Church teachers! |
Tuesday Night Bible Study
For the past six weeks we've met on Tuesday nights for a meal and to study the book of Ruth. Last Tuesday this study concluded and next week we will have a break from meeting. Another Bible study will likely begin the following week (October 26), with the topic yet to be announced. |
Children's Church Sings
West Valley Community Church is really blessed with great adults committed to helping our children grow spiritually. Every Sunday during the worship service our younger students are dismissed to a class downstairs that, by all accounts, is excellent. Sunday, the adults were given a brief concert of some of the music these kids sing each week, led by Lori Ross. If you think you might like to help, please speak with Margaret Post, who is the Church Catalyst for our Nurture ministries. |

Please Check Your Food Donations
If you donate food to the West Valley Food Bank, please check the expiration dates before donating. Some food items have been found that were dated from 2003 to 2006.
Those items were pulled out and anything dated after that is still in pantry.
Thanks for your assistance!

Invest in Our Youth Recently, Pastor Brandon was chosen by ACGC to serve on the national student leadership commission. One of his new responsibilities involves meeting with other AC youth leaders from across the US. In November this board will meet in conjunction with the national youth workers convention, held in Nashville, TN. While many of Brandon's expenses will be covered by ACGC, not all are. Also, since this convention provides excellent training for lay youth leaders, West Valley will benefit greatly by sending another youth worker to accompany Brandon at this event. The CLT has voted to encourage Brandon to attend the convention with his wife, Becca, who works closely with him in youth ministry. Since this is an expense not directly covered by our budget, we are asking members to help support this endeavor by giving designated contributions. Both the Western Regional AC Association and the Western Washington and British Colombia Conference will also be asked to help cover the costs associated with this trip. If you would like to "Invest in Our Youth (workers!)" in this manner, please designate any contributions as for "National Youth Workers Convention."

Women's Ministries All West Valley women are invited to join our Women's Ministries group. Some of our projects this year have been to make quilts and bibs, and to send supplies to the Philippines, including money for a sewing machine and dishes and cups for the Sunday School Outreach Program in Mati. We encourage you to join. Donations of $12 are being accepted now. Checks should be made out to "Women's Ministries" and either placed in the offering or given to Jody Fenlason. Thanks! |
