New Sign Arrives!!
  • The new sign in the old reader board is only the first of several changes being made to our signage. It is not quite complete; the address will be added soon to that sign.
  • The Welcome & Worship Service times and phone # will be on the glass front entry doors (we have this and it is ready to go up) and worship times and phone # will also be on the office door.
  • The gable of the church building (facing 288th Street) will also have a new look...we will be working with the sign company on options (possibly a banner type).
  • The "Youth Club House" will also have a new sign.
Notice that the new sign says "West Valley Community Church", our challenge now is to live up to our sign!!

Sock It to Homelessness
West Valley is joining Operation Nightwatch to "Sock it to homelessness!" We will be collecting socks for the next few weeks to help Operation Nightwatch provide this basic necessity to folks living on the cold streets of Seattle. Be looking for more details from John Fenlason.
A Note from Janet Erford
My heart-felt thanks for your prayers, thoughts and cards. I'm still on IV antibiotics, but able to be at home and hope to be able to switch to oral meds soon. I feel each prayer and send my love to you. -- Jan Erford
Prayer Request for Armando Cisneros
Please be in prayer for Armando Cisneros as he gains strength for reconstructive surgery on his head and face October 16.

Invest in Our Youth
Recently, Pastor Brandon was chosen by ACGC to serve on the national student leadership commission. One of his new responsibilities involves meeting with other AC youth leaders from across the US. In November this board will meet in conjunction with the national youth workers convention, held in Nashville, TN. While many of Brandon's expenses will be covered by ACGC, not all are. Also, since this convention provides excellent training for lay youth leaders, West Valley will benefit greatly by sending another youth worker to accompany Brandon at this event. The CLT has voted to encourage Brandon to attend the convention with his wife, Becca, who works closely with him in youth ministry. Since this is an expense not directly covered by our budget, we are asking members to help support this endeavor by giving designated contributions. Both the Western Regional AC Association and the Western Washington and British Colombia Conference will also be asked to help cover the costs associated with this trip. If you would like to "Invest in Our Youth (workers!)" in this manner, please designate any contributions  as for "National Youth Workers Convention."
From Our Pastor Emeritus, Clio Thomas

Pastor Clio Thomas serves as "Area Director" for the Asia/Pacific mission field of the Advent Christian Denomination. One of his duties is to encourage mission workers in a variety of settings throughout Asia. The following is a weekly installment of his letter, sent literally around the world to those in his charge.

Dear Ones in Christ,

When we think of the world wide web (www) we usually think of the information on the internet.  With a few strokes of keys on our computers we can get information from all over the planet, on almost any subject. But this week I have been thinking of the WWW in a different way. Week after week I write these short articles and then hit the send button and they go out all over the world. As I have been thinking about this and about each of you I have been reminded again of the Apostle Paul's words in Colossians 1:27:  "God has chosen to make known...the glorious riches of this mystery, which is Christ in you, the hope of glory."

The glorious truth of the Christian faith is that Jesus Christ lives in His people. As we go about our lives from day to day it is helpful for us to remember this. In all of our activities He chooses to minister through us. Christ has all of us involved in many different kinds of work and walks of life.  This is a way He chooses to touch the world. Some of you are physicians, some dentists, some teachers, some managers of businesses, some artists, some pastors, some engineers, most as parents, but all as servants of Christ. We need to remember that whatever we do we are (to use another phrase of Paul) "Ambassadors of Christ".

As recipients of these little articles we are a part of Jesus' World Wide Web.  God bless you as you serve Him.

Love in Jesus,

Pastor Clio

Donations for Mati, Philippines
We are planning to ship a large box of clothes to Mati, Philippines by the end of September. The folks there need summer clothes for children, teens, and young adults. (Women/Men's size small or medium would be fine.) Please leave your donations at West Valley or call Tom & Nelda if you need us to pick up your items (206 437-5535). Thank you on behalf of Agape Ministries.
Youth Update

Middle School Youth
Middle School Youth Group has been going well on Wednesday nights. The students are always full of energy and we have a good time. We are working through a narrative of the Bible. We have completed 16 weeks and we have many more to go.
