From Our Pastor Emeritus, Clio Thomas
Pastor Clio Thomas serves
as "Area Director" for the Asia/Pacific mission field of the Advent
Christian Denomination. One of his duties is to encourage mission
workers in a variety of settings throughout Asia. The following is a
weekly installment of his letter, sent literally around the world to
those in his charge.
Dear Ones in Christ, About a week ago I
started sharing with you thoughts on worldview. At that time I
said that one's worldview is: A set of beliefs about reality, the world, life, God, and the future
which determine how one lives, thinks, acts, and behaves. Other things may be
contained in one's worldview but these are central. A good summary
worldview for me is the Apostle's creed:
I believe in God the
Father Almighty, maker of heaven and earth; And in Jesus Christ,
His only begotten Son, our Lord, Who was conceived by
the Holy Spirit, born of the virgin Mary; Suffered under Pontius
Pilate; was crucified dead and buried; He descended into hell; The third day He rose
again from the dead; He ascended into
heaven, and sits at the right hand of God the Father Almighty: From there he shall
come to judge the living and the dead. I believe in the Holy
Spirit. I believe in the holy
universal church and the communion of the saints, The forgiveness of sins; The resurrection of the
body; And the life
everlasting. Amen. There are some other
things I would include in my worldview, one of which is the authority of the
Scriptures as the inspired word of God. But, the reason I think
it is important for one to think about what defines one's worldview is that it
is out of this we we live and act. To start out and say that one
believes in an Almighty God who created everything means that I believe in
a God who not only made the world, but Who made me. I am not here by
chance. Furthermore, since I believe in the authority of the Word of God
I know that creation is good because God said so in Genesis. One of the things I run
into in talking with people in the coffee shop or on the street is
that many of them don't have any clue about who they are or why they
are here. These last few days I have been talking with a young
person who is totally distraught by being jerked around and manipulated by
another person. She has no sense of having been made by a loving
almighty God and that she is a person who is important to Him, and
that He died for her. She was seeing herself as no good and
useless. Her younger sister at seventeen had just committed suicide
because she felt hopeless, too. After several days of conversation
and prayer she is beginning to see that she needs Jesus as her savior, and
as a loving Lord to lead and walk with her. She is beginning to know that
God loves her, and that she is important to Him. What I am trying to say
is that we Christians have a worldview that is meaningful and relevant to every
person's daily life. We are products of what we believe and so many
people have a void when it comes to any helpful beliefs about God, life, or
reality. They live by impulse and for the moment. To believe in God
the Father Almighty, and to know Him personally through His Son Jesus Christ
our Lord is life transforming. Without that people wander around and can
wind up doing most anything, which is often disastrous to them and to
others. More on this next week. God bless you! Love in Him, Pastor
Clio

SOFTBALL
GAME, June 27
We have a softball game scheduled with our friends from
the Northern District! The game will be played June 27 at 3:00 pm in
Bellingham. You are invited to come and play or cheer the team on. We
will leave right after church and try to carpool.
Michael is leading by example If Pastor Keith plays in the outfield we might see great plays. Oscar is getting comfortable at 2nd. He could get to ground balls like
this one all practice.
Spencer is an Eagle Scout!
Spencer was officially awarded the rank of Eagle
Scout Tuesday night. He has been working hard for this achievement for
many years. It was a great night to recognize all of Spencer's hard work
and dedication. Spencer's mother and father were both there to support
him. Spencer built the four large bookcases in the church library as part
of his Eagle Scout project. Great job Spencer!
