The Connection
Here's the Up and Up!
The downstairs remodel project is slowly progressing but still much to do!!  The door staining and finishing is almost complete... we still have plenty of trim around doors and windows to be installed, filled and painted.  Ron is almost finished with the tile project in the handicap bathroom and then Tom and Nelda have agreed to clean and seal the tile floors in all rooms. The children's classroom is close to empty and will then be painted and trimmed. Kitchen hardware still needs to be installed as well as all door hardware.  We have postponed the carpet installation until December 18.

Please pray that we will have a surge of energy and excitement and bring this job to completion before Christmas.  We are thankful for every volunteer who helps in any way and look forward to using this beautiful new space to the Glory of God!!

Animals for Stafford
The Stafford team is collecting new or gently used small stuffed animals to give as gifts to each resident of Stafford who attends our worship service on Christmas Sunday. If you have some you'd like to donate, please place them in the box at the back of the church by Sunday, Dec. 13th. We're also hoping to round up BELLS to use during our holiday services. If you have some you could donate or loan, please put those in the same box. If you'd like your BELLS returned to you, please label them with your name. Thanks so much!
Library News
Have you been looking for something new to read? Several new selections have arrived and been placed on the NEW BOOKS shelf. If you like historical fiction, take a look at The Russians series by Michael Phillips and Judith Pella. Another series is by Lori Wick, A Place Called Home. Both of these series grew from books donated by Melinda Lobb and have been added to for completion of each series.

Tracy Kidder has written Strength in What Remains, which gives a firsthand account of a young African man who survived civil war and found his way to NYC, where he lived a bare survival existence. He finally finished his education with the help of church and dedicated friends and is now building a medical work in his country. A powerful story of the strength of the human spirit.

What Difference Do It Make? is a sequel to Same Kind of Different as Me, a remarkable story of an unlikely friendship between an art dealer, his wife and a homeless man whose lives intertwined to create a huge awareness of the needs of the homeless. The second book is a sharing of many stories which the first precipitated when people were touched to give of their lives and resources sacrificially. Challenging and inspiring. Authors are Ron Hall and Denver Moore. You will also find more recent titles on the new book shelf.

CHRISTMAS BOOKS ARE OUT! Check the back table for a little bit of inspiration for the season. You deserve a little quite time to enjoy some seasonal reading. Something for everyone! There are many children's books too. Thanks to Elie Wheaton who helped arrange the children's section.
Villa Capri Update
This year we've changed our program a little.  We now play board games with the kids one week, the following week we make a craft. Of course the Wii is there every week.  There is a need for more board games.  If you have any used or new ones that you could donate, please talk with Sue Pleasants.  Also new this year, Brad Neil shares Bible stories with the kids every week, beginning in Genesis. The team working with the kids, Brad, Nelda, Jody, Bruce and Sue, are very thankful for your prayers and support.

From Our Pastor Emeritus, Clio Thomas

Pastor Clio Thomas serves as "Area Director" for the Asia/Pacific mission field of the Advent Christian Denomination. One of his duties is to encourage mission workers in a variety of settings throughout Asia. The following is a weekly installment of his letter, sent literally around the world to those in his charge.

Dear Ones in Christ,

For several weeks we have been considering the importance of the Church.  A brief recap is in order. The Church is God's people, the children of the New Covenant, comprising men and women of all races and languages who respond to the Gospel by faith in Jesus Christ.  As the people whom God has called together in Christ, the Church shares in the unity of her Lord.  There is one God, one Lord, one Church (Ephesians 4:1-6).  The Church is not the property of the believers.  It is the Church of Christ.  God Himself gathers together those in His Church through the witness of the Gospel, by the power of the Spirit.  The believers are transformed by Christ and are grafted into the tree which is His body.  In the Church the believers grow in Christ and live in Him, becoming one in Him and with each other.  As the Church is made up of those called together in Christ, so it is also His body which is sent into the world.  The Church is not of the world, but lives in the world.  The Church confesses the name of Jesus as Lord.  He is the Lord who came, who lived and died for man's sin, who is risen from the dead, who reigns, and who will come again. (Phil.2:6-11;3:20-21).  The church proclaims to the world the Gospel of salvation which God offers through Jesus Christ.  By her unity and love she provides the proof of the Gospel's power.  The Church is Christ's presence among men until the end of the world.  We need local churches in this 21st Century that fit into Jesus' vision of the Church.  This is the only way the world will ever know that He is Lord, and will ever come to know and follow Him.  The Church is His representative and bears witness to His Lordship.  This calls for obedience and righteous behavior on the part of those who make up the Church.  Otherwise the world will never see Christ in all of His glory.

God bless you as you serve Him.

Love in Him,

Pastor Clio
