Here's the Up and Up
PAINT...that
is what we are up to this week!! Webster says paint is to "adorn or
beautify" the space and it is nice to be at the beautifying stage. I noticed in the dictionary, paint follows
the word PAIN, I don't think there is any connection!!
Please come and join in the fun...we will have jobs for all.
If you can
provide a meal for volunteers...please contact Sue Pleasants for the next two
weeks while Kathy Wheaton is out of town.
If you have
questions about the work parties...please call Sandy Tonseth at 253.839.6053. To God be the glory! Sandy Tonseth CLT Chairman

An Urgent Need from ACGC General Conference News
Typhoon
Ketsana hit the metropolitan area of Manila in
the Philippines
last Friday night. Field Leader and missionary Jeff Walsh reported this
weekend that the Philippine Red Cross is saying that 80 percent of the metro
area in Manila
is under water (See article from Asia Pacific Area Director, Clio
Thomas). The news media has reported 247 deaths (none from our AC family
that we know of) and more than 375,000 displaced because of the
flooding. We have one Advent Christian church in metro Manila, pastored by Roy Rocha. He
reports that all of the church members have lost their homes and everything
they owned - food, clothes, furniture, appliances, etc. The church
building itself was severely damaged by flood waters. Pastor Roy has been able
to collect some clothes, rice and water over the weekend to distribute to the
members, but they are in immediate need of food for the next several
weeks. While we have already sent $1,000 from our Emergency Relief Fund to
address some of the urgent needs, we recognize that much more will be needed
after the flood waters subside and they begin rebuilding their homes and
lives.
We need to help now with the immediate and basic needs like food, clothing and
shelter. Then, as we evaluate the severity of the damage and what has been
lost, we want to partner with our Advent Christian family in the Philippines to
begin recovering and rebuilding both the lives and communities of those who
have been displaced by the flood. We are asking for contributions to be made
out to Advent Christian General Conference and identified for "Philippines
Flood Relief." We will then forward your gift to our mission staff to
direct it toward both the immediate and long-term recovery targets. If we are
able to fully fund the relief effort, any additional funds received will be
assigned to our Emergency Relief Fund from which we have already drawn monies
in response to this crisis. This also provides the means by which we are able
to respond immediately to the next emergency.
Please send your gift to:
Advent
Christian General Conference
P.O. Box 690848
Charlotte, NC 28227
Or, donate online by clicking here.
Thank you for your timely response to help those who are truly suffering. Jesus
said, "I tell you the truth, whatever you did for one of the least of
these brothers of mine, you did for me" (Matthew 25:40).

Sock it to the Homeless
On Sunday Sept.
27th, we launched a sock drive to support Operation Nightwatch, a Seattle
outreach ministry to the homeless. Think about it, cold and wet Seattle in the
winter, and you have your "not very good" shoes on 24 hours a day.
Wet feet can be a miserable condition, and the gift of dry socks can be very
important. Each year Operation Nightwatch will give out up to 20,000 pairs of
socks, and so...an annual drive to collect white athletic socks: thus
"Sock it to The Homeless!"
We'll be
collecting up to Oct. 25th. Please take a few minutes when you are next
shopping to pick up a few pairs of socks, bring them with you to church and
throw them into the box in the back foyer. (The word is that there currently
are some good deals on socks at "Stupid Prices", "Fred
Meyer", "WalMart", and "Costco".)

Pastor
Keith and Kathy will be on vacation for the next two weeks. Kathy and the
children are going to visit her family in New York State, and
Keith is joining Jim Crouse and a friend to hunt elk in eastern Washington.
Since he will be in the wilderness, Keith's cell phone is unlikely to work.
In the case of an emergency, call Pastor Brandon at 253-653-5613.

Women's Ministries
WOMEN: Let's get organized and moving! We
want to join together for fun and ministry. Plan to be a part of
Women's Ministries this year, so we can organize some interesting
get-togethers and plan some ministries to our community. All women are
invited to join. Dues are only $12 and go to support projects on all
levels of Women's Ministries. Last year one project our local group
supported was the giving of $150 toward Christmas gifts for children at
Villa Capri. To join, please make checks out to Women's Ministries and
give to Jody Fenlason. Thanks!

From Our Pastor Emeritus, Clio Thomas
Pastor Clio Thomas serves as "Area Director" for the Asia/Pacific mission field of the Advent Christian Denomination. One of his duties is to encourage mission workers in a variety of settings throughout Asia. The following is a weekly installment of his letter, sent literally around the world to those in his charge.
Dear Ones in Christ,
Someone has said that "we are the only hands and feet that
Jesus has to reach this world". When Jesus set out to establish His
Church He was intent on the Church fulfilling His grand design of reaching the
entire world with the Gospel. In 2 Corinthians chapter 5 the
Apostle Paul declares, "God reconciled us to Himself through
Christ and gave us the minintry of reconciliation...We are therefore Christ's
ambassadors, as though God were making His appeal through us." Paul
also writes throughout his several letters that we are "in Christ",
and Christ is "in us". If this is the case it means that
everyone who is in Christ and who is a part of His body the church is expected
to play an integral part in reaching the world in His name. Paul
also says in this same passage that "all of this is from God".
God's plan to reconcile the world to Himself is through the people who have
been themselves reconciled to God through Christ. If this is to
happen it will involve more than going to Bible studies, singing praise songs,
and attending church meetings and dinners. (All of the above which may be
fun, beneficial, and uplifting.) We must be agents of reconciliation in a
broken and hurting world, and this must be 24 hours a day, seven days a
week. Sometimes the church is guilty of dissension and the spawning
of disunity and unrest...the exact opposite of what God has in mind. If
we are His body we will be like Him. Christ wants to live life through
His people.
God bless you. Let's be the Church!!
Love in Him,
Pastor Clio
