Young Life Update
Recently
Bruce and Rena Pleasants led a group of youth to the annual Young Life
camp in Wild Horse. This past Sunday they and several of those youth
gave a report to our church about their activities. In addition to a
video of the highlights, each of the youth commented on how the
experience helped them to grow spiritually. One of the youth even made
a commitment to Christ! Praise the Lord for His work through Bruce and
Rena's ministry. Click the picture below to view some of the pictures from last Sunday's report on our website.

From Our Pastor Emeritus, Clio Thomas
This year is a GREAT fruit year in the Pacific Northwest of the United States. We have more apples, plums, and berries in our garden than we can use, so we give them away to neighbors and friends at church. But, other than pruning the trees when they are dormant in winter I had nothing to do with the bearing of fruit. That is God's doing. The trees blossom in the spring and set on fruit with no help from me. So it is with the fruit of the Spirit: love, joy, peace, patience, gentleness, goodness, faith, meekness, temperance. These are the result of the working of the Holy Spirit in one's life. They cannot be manufactured through the exertion of one's will or hard work. So it is also with the gifts of the Spirit, gifts that are given to God's servants for ministry. There are some 20 or more gifts of the Spirit, including pastoring, teaching, evangelism, administration, service, leadership, giving, and more. When the Christian Church looks for men and women to serve in the body we need to seek to discover the spiritual gifts of those individuals. Paul says in Ephesians that the gifts are given for works of service. If we don't seek to determine the gifts of people we will wind up putting "square pegs in round holes, and round pegs in square holes." This often leads to disasters as people wind up in jobs God never intended for them. Let's not put people in positions simply because they are available for the job, or they think it would be interesting. Another thing to remember is what a man by the name of Samuel Chadwick pointed out in his book "The Way to Pentecost". He wrote, "The gifts can be abused, but the fruit can never be abused." We need the gifts and fruit combined in ministry. A pastor, teacher, or leader can be a tyrant and abuse the power of the position. But, where the fruit of the Spirit is present in abundance in a leader's life, and exercised with the gifts the results will be a joy to behold. Both the pastor and the flock, the leaders and the people will be blessed and be a blessing. Let's let God give the gifts and the fruit in abundance! |
