Greetings!

Knee and hip pain are two of the most prevalent musculoskeletal  conditions warranting people to seek physical therapy.  For the elderly population it is generally due to osteoarthritis.  For the athletes of professional and recreational sports, it is sprains, strains and cartilage damage. Certainly physical therapy is not limited to these conditions nor to these groups.

Doctors' prescriptions call for land-based therapy. Lately, however, aquatic therapy, also known as hydrotherapy, has been making its mark on the rehabilitation front.  Patients are now educating themselves on alternative forms of treatment and are now more aware of the facets of their regiment.

Aquatic therapy has become one of the most innovative forms of rehabilitation treatment and unfortunately, not all practices accommodate the interest for taking a dip in a heated pool as doctor's orders.
The HydroWorx Pool @ WSPT

According to the American Physical Therapy Association, research in utilizing a heated pool for therapy speeds recovery time significantly compared to land-based exercises alone.

The Hydro-Worx pool features an underwater treadmill.  This amenity reduces ground reaction forces that would normally impact the lower extremity joints on a land treadmill.

Being submerged underwater decreases body weight by 80%.  This reduces the force exerted by the ground onto the body which radiates from the feet upwards and through the joints.   The absence of joint impact maintains a cardio workout, improve hip and knee ranges of motion, strengthen muscles as well as work on balance.
Aquatic Therapy Treats Neuromuscular Disorders

Fibromyalgia is a chronic condition characterized by widespread pain in your muscles, ligaments and tendons, as well as fatigue and multiple tender points - places on your body where slight pressure causes pain.

Multiple sclerosis (MS) is a debilitating disease in which your body's immune system eats away at the protective sheath that covers your nerves. This interferes with the communication between your brain and the rest of your body. Ultimately, this may result in deterioration of the nerves themselves, a process that's not reversible.

Back Pain resonating to and from various parts of the body is one of the chief complaints of daily life.  From injuries, accidents, occupational ergonomic deprivation, chronic diseases and conditions, sitting, standing laying down too long, and many others, back pain is ubiquitous- it is seemingly everywhere.

All conditions are no strangers to pain.  Sleep deprivation, irritability, as well as depression all accompany these and many others.  Aquatic therapy eases the symptoms that accompany these conditions and many others.  The 94 degrees heated pool will ease the nagging feeling and allow the body to move freely again.

Ask your doctor about aquatic therapy and come see us soon.
