| Greetings! |

Obesity is everywhere. It is in the workplace, in the parks, on the streets, in our children's schools, and most likely, in our own homes.
The Bronx has been recently named the unhealthiest city in New York State. In response to this, WSPT has put together a FREE Diabetes Prevention & Management seminar.
The District Public Health Offices have obtained statistics from Head Start Programs all over the South Bronx. Head Start is a national program that promotes school readiness by enhancing the social and cognitive development of children through the provision of educational, health, nutritional, social and other services to enrolled children and families. These are just a few of their findings:
Obesity and overweight are common in residents of all ages in the South Bronx.
· Nearly 1 in 3 children in Head Start programs is obese, and almost half are overweight
or obese.
· Nearly 1 in 4 children in public elementary schools is obese, and nearly 4 in 10 are
overweight or obese.
· About 1 in 6 public high school students is obese, and more than 1 in 3 is overweight
or obese.
· One in 4 adults is obese, and 2 in 3 are overweight or obese.
With excess body fat comes diabetes and other health conditions such as hypertension, stroke, and cardiovascular disease.
Please join us on Wednesday April 7, 2010 at 7pm in our office to learn to make changes starting today. |
