NAWIC SPOT LIGHT ON YOU!

April - Spotlight - Barbara Kuettel

BARBARA KUETTEL

April - This month our Spotlight is on : Barbara Kuettel; (Residential Plans Analyst/Building Inspector):

Barb is certified as a residential building inspector and plans analyst (reviews house plans for code compliance prior to construction). She has spent the past 18 years in the construction industry. Her dream job was being the residential building inspector and plans analyst for the City of Cherry Hills Village for 5 years. The homes ranged from 10K - 40K square feet and it was the best experience for seeing new products and construction techniques. The architectural home designs were magnificent and the building materials were imported from around the world. Barb loves the construction industry, because it is always evolving with more efficient ways to create a net zero (highly energy efficient) homes. Her favorite aspect of her job is helping contractors and homeowners successfully build their residential construction projects.

Barb is also a Past President of the Colorado Chapter of International Code Council and she still participates in the organization.

Barb has been attending the NAWIC meetings for 1½ years and became a member in October. Barb joined NAWIC because she thinks that it is an outstandingand reputable organization that encourages and promotes women to be successful in a male-dominated industry. The speakers focus on interesting topics affecting today's market; the members are excited about their role in the construction industry; and there is a wonderful sisterhood with all the members.

Here are a few fun facts about Barb:

  • What would you do if you had a million dollars? I would pay off my bills with 1/5 of it. With the remaining 800K, I would create an organization to help children with terminal illnesses (similar to Make a Wish Foundation).
  • Favorite vacation spots. Wow that list is endless...Sanibel, Florida; Luzern, Switzerland; Sydney, Australia; Canmore, Canada, etc.
  • If you could go anywhere in the world, where would it be? I would love to visit Dubai to see all the amazing buildings and islands that they have built in the recent years.
  • Tell us one thing that we'd never guess about you. I have multiple citizenships.
  • How many languages can you speak? 2
  • What college/university did you attend? California State University @ Long Beach and Metro State College.
  • Would you rather be rich or healthy? Healthy (it is something that money cannot buy).
  • Would you rather have super strength or super intelligence? Intelligence.
  • Favorite "guilty pleasure" song; "Sweet Child of Mine" by Guns and Roses.
  • Who was your favorite pet? My cat Romeo.
  • Do you still watch cartoons? Yes, the animation for the new ones is amazing (Ice Age, Despicable Me, Up, Bolt, Ratatouille, Tangled, etc).
  • Favorite movie of all time? Last of the Dogmen.
  • Favorite type of fruit pie? My aunt's apricot pie.
  • Can you change the oil in your truck? Yes.
  • Would you rather be attacked by a big bear or a swarm of bees? Neither; they are both deadly and I'm extremely allergic to bees. That would be a really bad day!
