Pamela Fong studied at Art Center College of Design after a BA from CSU Sacramento. Fashion model, TV and film actress and world traveler, Fong blends Asian historical graphic imagery and abstract textures that incorporate textiles, inks and acrylic paint in mixed media works. Geri Schonberg, with a BA from Vanderbilt University and a Masters of Arts from the University of Denver, looks for culinary influences in her abstract and free-spirited impressionistic canvases. Arline Tepper put hammer and chisel to stone after a visit to Ventura's Art City 15 years ago and now sculpts to music, wearing her favorite hospital gown.  | |

Two Views," a joint exhibition in oils from Sept 11 to Oct 6 by two plein-air painter/friends, Katherine McGuire and Christine Apostolina Beirne, who worked together at the Buenaventura Gallery a decade ago as office manager and marketing manager, respectively. Both artists will be at Sept 15 opening reception 4-7 pm as well as First Friday on Oct. 5. Each has been studying and creating art since childhood and both hold bachelor of art degrees in studio art, McGuire from the University of New Mexico and Beirne from California State University, Channel Islands. The two kept in close touch after McGuire's move north to Woodside in 2005 and about 18 months ago began meeting for three- or four-day plein-air sessions at locations in between both areas including Ventura, Ojai, Santa Paula, San Francisco, Woodside, Benecia, Sausalito, Half Moon Bay and other places. MOVC Agriculture Museum
The Museum of Ventura County Agriculture Museum is located at 926 Railroad Avenue, Santa Paula, in the historic downtown, near the Depot and next to the railroad tracks. Admission is $4 adults, $3 seniors, $1 children 6-17, free for Museum of Ventura County members, and for children ages 5 and younger.
On first Sundays of the month, general admission is always free.

Farm implements used in the extensive agriculture industry in the county are on permanent exhibit with special exhibits on clothing and accessories from the 18th century to the present, and textiles such as quilts and other household linens, flags and banners, furniture and other decorative arts from local families, plus many other types of objects, including toys, medical equipment, tools, musical instruments, office equipment, and saddles and tack. A spectacular Chinese Lion Dance at 2 pm by the Camarillo Kung Fu and Lion Dance Association highlights the Chinese Cultural Heritage Festival at the Museum of Ventura County on Saturday, September 8th from 1 to 4 pm. Visitors can also visit the new museum exhibit from Sept 1 to Nov 25, "Hidden Voices: The Chinese of Ventura County," which focuses on the largely unheard story of early Chinese settlements in Ventura and Oxnard. The Ventura County Chinese American Association Dance Troupe and Nan's Dance Studio present other dance performances throughout the day; artist BiJian Fan exhibits his kinetic sculptures; artist Christine Leong paints with watercolor on paper and silk scarves; the Conejo Chinese Cultural Association demonstrates how to make paper, and the Ventura County Chinese American Association applies the brush to the art of calligraphy and painting. Festival admission is $5 for the general public, free for members and children 12 years old and younger, and includes entry to all four new museum exhibits.

Meet Live Mules and Draft Horses at Ag Museum's free First Sunday on September 2

Agricultural Museum "Fields of Color" opens Sept 15
"Fields of Color: Paintings by Hilda Kilpatrick" debuts at the Museum of Ventura County Agricultural Museum with an opening reception on Saturday, September 15, 2-4 pm (exhibit closes October 28). Inspired by California landscapes since moving here from her native Peru in 1988, Kilpatrick conveys the beauty of local Ventura County flower fields with exuberant colors and impressionistic brushstrokes. Students are encouraged to enter the new student film category of the Water Take 1 global online short film contest. All entries are to be less than five minutes in any genre (drama, documentary, comedy, animation, Sci-fi or experimental) addressing our relationship with water and promoting water awareness, efficiency and recycling. Ventura County professional visual artists are invited to submit applications by September 4 for the annual juried Koch & Milton Grants. BAA 4th annual watercolor & aqua media open competition submissions due Sept 10
The Buenaventura Art Association, in partnership with the California Gold Coast Watercolor Society, is pleased to announce the 4th annual Watercolor & Aqua Media Competition open to professional and amateur artists from Ventura, Santa Barbara and Los Angeles counties. The exhibition of selected entries will run from September 19 to October 22 at BAA's Harbor Village Gallery with cash prizes and BAA memberships (awards reception Sept 21 5-8 pm). Artist proposals for Coastal Communities Cancer Center
extended to September 19

The City of Ventura Public Art Program in partnership with Community Memorial Hospital invites area artists to submit proposals by September 19 to exhibit original art at the Coastal Communities Cancer Center on Loma Vista between Brent and Joanne Streets. The primary goal of the artwork is to inspire residents and visiting patients alike with the inspirational qualities of art. The gallery spaces at the facility, situated in the lighted glass windows on three exterior walls, provide an exceptional gallery space for rotating exhibits. Each rotation will exhibit the work of three artists - one for each side of the facility. Selected works will be on display for a period of three months per rotation.

Three fall artist workshops on Persuasion, Strategic Planning and Financial Literacy begin Sept 19
Are you uncomfortable putting a financial value on your work and talking with clients, vendors and suppliers? "The Art of Persuasion: Making Better Deals" workshop conducted by a trainer from Center for Cultural Innovation will give you tools and tactics to use when negotiating for yourself. Public Art Conservation Interns restore Ventura River Trail artworks
The City of Ventura Public Art Program trained three interns in its annual summer conservation program: Madeline Keys-Levine, a senior at Foothill Technology High School; Robert G. Hanna, artist and resident at Working Artist Ventura; and Alex Gaskill, a junior at CSUCI. The interns worked to restore Ventura River Trail artworks marred by graffiti during the month of August.
