e mob." Jackie Ringhof, fitness and dance teacher with the City of Ventura is the brainchild behind offering our local community a free opportunity for Dance Day. Dancers have met every Friday at the Barranca Vista Center for two months to learn, practice and perfect their dances all culminating in a grand finale on the National Dance Day, July 28 at 11:15 am, at the Ventura Community Park. The dancers debuted their dance - Alvin and the Chipmunks cover of "I've Got a Feeling" by the Black Eyes Peas at the 4th of July Street Fair in downtown Ventura. They appeared at a beach volunteer cleanup (see photo at right) and Westside Art Walk. The group members love dancing so much that they are thinking about taking their show on the road to perform at other public venues. Who knows where they will be stepping out next! Kingsmen Shakespeare Festival concludes August 3-5
A final weekend of "Romeo and Juliet" concludes the 16th season of the Kingsmen Shakespeare Festival on Aug. 3-5 at Cal Lutheran in Thousand Oaks. All shows begin at 8 pm but visitors are immersed in the Shakespeare experience as the festival grounds open at 5:30 pm for pre-show picnicking and Elizabethan entertainment.

MOVC Agriculture Museum
The Museum of Ventura County Agriculture Museum is located at 926 Railroad Avenue, Santa Paula, in the historic downtown, near the Depot and next to the railroad tracks. "Conquest of the Americas" through August 5
The latest George Stuart Historical Figures exhibition at the Museum of Ventura County, illustrates how conquistadors, explorers and settlers brought far-reaching consequences for the indigenous peoples of the Americas, and for the entire world. Other exhibits continue through August 19:

"Who Made the Norwegian Grade?" at Ag Museum August 11
Hear the surprising history of how mules helped Norwegian immigrants get Conejo Valley crops to market by building the "Norwegian Grade" from Gerald "Gerry" Olsen, grandson of one of these original farming families at the Museum of Ventura County Agriculture Museum in Santa Paula on Saturday, August 11 at 2 pm. The talk is included with the price of general admission; museum members are free. Seating is limited; so reservations are recommended. To RSVP call 805-525-3100.
The talk is part of "Team Work: Horses and Mules on the Job," an exhibition that runs through September 2 and illustrates a time before tractors and automobiles, when four-legged horsepower provided the major muscle for agriculture and commerce. Rare photographs from the museum's research library collection, as well as oral and written accounts, tell the story of how horses and mules were essential to Ventura County's growth during the late 19th and early 20th centuries.

Arts Council seeks nominations for Art Stars Awards 2012 by August 15
The Ventura County Arts Council seeks nominations for the Art Stars Awards 2012 which will be held Wednesday, October 3 at the Tower Club in Oxnard. The nomination categories are: businesses, public agencies, nonprofit arts organizations, artists in community service, arts educators, arts philanthropists and young arts leaders. The City of Ventura, on behalf of Mayor Mike Tracy, welcomes nominations for the eighth annual Mayor's Arts Awards, recognizing the artistic achievements and contributions to the cultural community by City residents, artists, educators, organizations and business leaders. Nominations will be accepted until Friday, September 7th in six categories.

About Us
The mission of Office of Cultural Affairs, part of the Community Partnerships Division of the Department of Parks, Recreation & Community Partnerships, is to: promote broad community awareness of, access to, and education in the arts and the city's historic resources in Ventura; provide opportunities and support to Ventura artists and arts organizations; foster cross-cultural understanding; and support economic development and tourism, especially in the downtown core.
