Westside Neighborhood Recycling and Collection Event
on June 16
Westside residents may discard e-waste and recycle unwanted household items free of charge on Saturday, June 16, 9 am-12 pm, at the corner of Kellogg Street and North Ventura Avenue.

 Railroad Trestle Improvements Continue June 8, 9, 10
Visitors to Downtown will receive a "shiny" welcome when the second phase of the graffiti abatement on the trestle over US 101 is completed. The improvements, part of the city's Safe and Clean Initiative, include clearing graffiti, installing surveillance cameras, new lighting and fencing, and other physical barriers to deter vandalism and trespassers.
The second phase of the nightly work will begin this weekend June 8, 9 and 10 closing the northbound lanes of US 101 between Seaward Avenue and South Oak Street from 11 pm to 7 am Friday and Saturday, and 11 pm to 5 am on Sunday. Traffic control measures will be in place to direct motorists to alternate routes. |
 Community Law Enforcement Day Featuring VPD K-9 Unit Celebrate Community Law Enforcement Day featuring the Ventura Police Department's K-9 Unit on Saturday, June 9 from 10 am-4 pm at the Pacific View Mall. The K-9 Unit will provide demonstrations every hour and residents can meet the officers and their partners. VPD Officers and the Motor Unit will also be on hand to showcase BearCat, the SWAT Tactical Vehicle. Activities for children include the Police Activities League (PAL) climbing wall, Recreation Trailer, and an opportunity to be fingerprinted. Attendees can also enter the raffle to win K-9 merchandise and items from local retailers. |
 Fusion Soccer Team Makes an Impact
Based in Ventura, the Ventura County Fusion is a world-class, championship caliber soccer franchise and participant in the Western Conference of the Premier Development League. In its sixth year of operation, the team's roster consists of members of the United States Under 20 National Team, NCAA Division 1 college teams, and standouts from various international squads. The 2012 season has four remaining home games at Ventura College -June 16 and 27 and July 4 and 13.
VC Fusion is an important contributor to Ventura's tourism and hospitality sectors. Over the last two years alone, the VC Fusion has been responsible for 11,500 local hotel room nights, 17 Major League Soccer Team training visits, 5 English Premier League Soccer Team visits, 16 International Club/Team visits, and the Youth State Cup that brought 35,000 people to Ventura over 6 weekends. The City of Ventura is proud to host the Fusion, and encourages local sports and soccer enthusiasts to support our local team.  Fairy Tales in the Park Free Theater Begins June 9
The all-volunteer troupe Gypsies in a Trunk presents its 18th season of free summer "fractured" fairy tale theatre productions at Barranca Vista Park, 7050 Ralston St. in Ventura, at 4 pm.
Patrons are invited to bring low back lawn chairs, blankets and a picnic for these original performances for the young and young at heart. June 9-Cinderella 2; July 14-Beauty & the Beast; August 11-3 Billy Goats Gruff and Sept. 8-Chicken Little. |
