 | In Plain Sight, 2008 By Gwen Manfrin, colored pencil on paper, 28" x 34" | faces toward a woman, his view nearly impeded by a bevy of flying fruit. Fantastical headdresses adorn many of his figures adding to the surreal element of his work.Ashleigh Norman's works are cryptic; ambiguous narratives invite the viewer to come up with their own story. "In The Message," a young girl's hair is being blown by some invisible force, while next to her sit a not-so-still life with a turbulent glass of wine and broken record on a gramophone.
Gwen Manfrin's solo exhibition "Whet" in Sylvia White's North Gallery features mixed media paintings and drawings exploring moments of unguarded teenage angst experienced by many young girls reflecting both vulnerability and strength of identity
