Enteral Formula Updates

 Hi Team,

Just wanted to point out a few changes to the formularies and updates in the past year for a few enteral formulas.   I know a lot of us (old timers) like to carry around the old Product Reference Guide that Nestle (or formally known as Novartis) used to produce years ago.  I myself still carry it around.  I have found that there have been updates to some of the formulas since those books have been produced.

One of the formulas that I noted was Novasource Renal (By Nestle) it was reformulated in 2010 to now provide 90.7g Protein per 1000 ml as compared to previous at 74g per 1000 ml.

The Spring 2011 Nestle Healthcare Nutrition Product Guide is correct, and it is the spiral book that you probably all carry.    Sam Ousey has contacted the Nestle Representative to obtain the newest spiral bound books that are produced yearly. The office currently has a supply of these Nestle 2011 product guides. Please contact the office to obtain one if you don't have the 2011 edition.  The Nestle representative reported that the 2012 edition is going to be available in a couple of months, If you carry the small Source Chart product reference guide that compares formulas from different companies, I would either throw it out. or update it with your own figures. I have found some of the diabetic formulas are outdated as well in that reference guide.

Nestle and Abbot have been sending a lot of the correspondence on formula changes to the central supply people or the Dietary Supervisors in the buildings. Nestle sent out a letter in September 2011 regarding the Novasource Renal changes.  I have also contacted Nestle myself and had them send me new updated materials for free, and also put me on their mailing list to update me with changes.

Just wanted to update everyone on these changes as they may affect your calculations or clinical recommendations with the tube feeding population.

Dear Dietitian

Thanks to Kim for keeping us up to date. Another great reason to work for Nutricopia is the abundance of help from your peers in the field. Someone always has an experience to share that will help the rest of us!
