F322 Tube Feeding Surveyor Guidance on Hold!

Keep last week's RDNews information in your files for later use: CMS announced a retraction to the surveyor guidance implementation! The Tube Feeding F322 surveyor guidance release will be held until  CMS has included information for the Quality Indicator Survey (QIS ).  But the same good practices apply and will be included once the official guidance is released.

Food Funnies

In honor of Halloween, I feel the need to make    appropriate jokes:

Do Zombies eat popcorn with their fingers?

No, they eat the fingers separately!

What does a vampire never order at a restaurant?

A stake sandwich!

Nutricpoia Menu For Success masthead

Issue: 115

October 31, 2011

Greetings!

This issue brings you the latest diet manual updates that Janet Montano, RD, our Director of Menu Programs has worked so hard on this year!  And some Happy Halloween ideas...

 Nutricopia Diet Manual Updated

The revised Diet Manual is scheduled to be distributed to our menu and product clients during the month of November. There are many additions and updates included that you will need to be aware of. Nutricopia RDs will also be receiving a new Diet Manual next month. California Title 22 regulations specify that the skilled nursing facility must have "A current therapeutic diet manual, approved by the dietitian and the patient care policy committee, shall be readily available to the attending physician, nursing and dietetic personnel. It shall be reviewed annually and revised at least every five years".  A summary of the updates include:

  • Dietary Reference Intakes (DRI): Recommended Dietary Allowances updated to 2010 version (p.20)
  • Analysis of the Nutricopia Menus - fat content reduced from 80-90 gm to 75-85 gm on average (p.21)
  • Dietary Guidelines and Menu Planning changed from The Food Guide Pyramid to MyPlate (p.23-24)
  • Facility Diets now include Heart Healthy Diet (p.25-27)
  • Nutrition Intervention form updated to include most current practices (p.54)
  • Finger Food Diet added (p.62-64)
  • Exchange Lists System for Diabetic Diets updated using the 2008 Choose Your Foods: Exchange Lists for Diabetes (p.110-128)
  • Renal 40 gm Protein, 2 gm Sodium, 2 gm Potassium Meal Pattern added (p.169)
  • Purine Restricted Diet added (p.184-186)
  • Common Acronyms & Medical Abbreviations updated and combined (p.195-197)
  • Diets compared and revised using the current Nutrition Care Manual from ADA

RD Tip

  • Check your facilities for current diet manuals dated within the past 5 years and reviewed and approved annually
  • Sign the approval pages of each manual annually

Even if your facility does not use Nutricopia menus and diet manual,

  • Make sure there is a manual at each nursing station and in the kitchen
  • Contact the Nutricopia office if your facilities need more diet manuals
