ADA  Announces a New Name

The American Dietetic Association announced a big surprise at FNCE in San Diego this week; A new name! The new name is the

Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics

and will be effective January 2012. According to Sylvia Escott-Stump, President of ADA, "The name promotes the strong science background and academic expertise of our members".  "An academy is a society of learned persons organized to advance science... adding nutrition to our name communicates our capacity for translating nutrition science into healthier lifestyles.... keeping dietetics supports our history as a food and science-based profession". "The name change communicates that we are the nutrition experts".

Nutricpoia Menu For Success masthead

Issue: 112

September 30, 2011

Greetings!

Thanks to everyone for attending our food cost control conference call sessions. Cost control will be the number one concern in the health care communities for the next several months. Review the tips in this issue for some easy help you can provide your dietary managers.

Coming Soon to On-Tap: Food Cost Quality Assurance Checklist

Our programmer is working on adding the Food Cost QA Checklist to our staff On-Tap site. You will then be able to enter your facility's information and access it for better tracking to help the communities with their dietary cost control systems. You can access and print a pdf of the checklist at the staff website under the RD Toolbox, Reference File, Food Costs/Fiscal Management section.

Nutricopia RDs are to begin gathering the data for the Cost Control QA checklist and to complete it by the end of the month of October. Make sure the Administer and Dietary Managers are aware that you will be conducting this QA in place of the monthly RD Report Card. Discuss with them the importance of cost containment with the onset of the revenue cuts beginning in October.

RD Tip

Use the Nutricopia Policy and Procedure Manual for reference and resources to help your Dietary Managers implement systems for cost control. In the QA Checklist, the 3 main categories to review are Accounting Practices, Purchasing Practices, and Production Management. Review the following sections of the manual for worksheets and forms you may suggest to your facilities.
