HMC developed the DMA approved Dietary Manager Online training program in partnership with Loma Linda University that launched in the summer and already has many students enrolled. HMC has been committed to improving training for dietary managers through development of this program. Another outreach to dietary managers, nurses and administrators is our monthly e-newsletter "Menu For Success" which is offered free to subscribers. Judy Morgan has been an excellent Editor of both this publication and weekly editions of RDNews.
HMC debuted "It's All About the Food" culinary workshops featuring our Chef RD, Julie Tharalson, and our VP, Sam Ousey and they now provide in-facility culinary consultation. This theme continued throughout the year with Lee Tincher, Sam Ousey and Julie Tharalson featured as speakers at CAHF meetings on quality dining and culture change.
Sam Ousey was awarded the California Dietetic Association's Award for Excellence in Private Practice, Business or Communication in April at the CDA conference awards luncheon. Sam serves the profession on the CDA Member Council and is often asked to speak at conferences.
Judy Morgan conducted training webinars on Trans Fat Law and MDS 3.0 for CAHF/QCHF for dietary managers, RDs and Administrators. Judy also represents dietitians and HMC on the CAHF Quality Improvement Subcommittee.
Lee Tincher has been integrally involved in the California and national legislative process for our industry and active in the CAHF Legislative Committee. This knowledge is applied to continually updating our HMC manuals and procedures, helping to keep HMC at the leading edge of LTC dietitians.
Janet Montano continues to direct our HMC menu programs. We have returned to quarterly seasonal menus and replaced our 6 week/6 month menus to quarterly 4 week seasonal cycles. There has been a major review and update of recipes and the addition of numerous new recipes. Janet conducted a focus group in Spring of 2010 with good feedback from customers. HMC announced the new MenuCentral on-line menu service to be available in 2011.
Sam and Judy partner with San Jose State University, Sacramento State University, UC Davis Medical Center and Loma Linda University for dietetic internship rotations and guest speakerships/presentations to further our involvement in the development and mentoring of new graduates and interns for their roles as dietitians.
Sonja Lorraine, HR Director, continues to recruit and hire the best qualified dietitians for our consulting firm and HMC continues to be the largest private employer of RDs in California. Our HMC success continues to be the expert consultation provided by each dietitian staff member to each client facility.
