Greetings!
National Nutrition Month in March provides many opportunities to highlight the value of RD services to your facilities. In this issue you will find resources and tools to assist you in the field and further educate others about your vital role in the success of their facilities and lives of their residents.
National Nutrition Month

According to the ADA, "National Nutrition Month is a nutrition education and information campaign sponsored annually by the ADA. The campaign is designed to focus attention on the importance of making informed food choices and developing sound eating and physical activity habits. NNM also promotes ADA and its members to the public and the media as the most valuable and credible source of timely, scientifically based food and nutrition information".

The ADA website has several good press releases that can be printed and provided to your communities for nutrition information and identifying the role of the RD as the nutrition expert. We want you to be recognized!

HMC is partnering with CAHF (California Association of Health Facilities) this year to provide training seminars and CE events with the theme "It's All About the Food". The CAHF Spring Legislative Conference is being held in Sacramento March 14th - 16th.  Our HMC RDs Suzanne (Sam) Ousey and Julie Tharalson will be presenting a 2 hour continuing education session titled: It's All About The FoodAll About the Food: Better Food=Money Saved. CAHF will be offering sessions at each statewide meeting (featuring our HMC RDs!) relating to food satisfaction and the importance of giving credence to the resident's interest in what they eat. This first session discusses knowing how to buy and prepare quality food and how you can actually save money.

Please let your Administrators know about the sessions presented by HMC at the CAHF conference.... they will be informative and tasty too! In addition they may be interested to know that HMC can provide culinary techniques and food presentation training to their dietary staff at their facility. Please provide them with the HMC website link where they will find resources, materials, programs and information to help them in their dietary department.

Dear Dietitian;
Did you know that most people don't know the difference between a "nutritionist" and a registered dietitian, and rely on internet, TV, magazines, books and word of mouth for nutrition information? According to a recent ADA online survey, 70% visit 2-3 websites for nutrition information and believe it to be accurate, 61% have trouble finding accurate food and nutrition information on the internet, and 78% want new reliable sources of online information. So.... Thank you for all you do as the nutrition expert, and please use some of these resources we've listed to provide current, reliable, credible information to your clients.
