HMC Dress Code
Considerations
Article submitted by Sonja Lorraine, RD, HR Director
The dress attire you choose to wear to work reflects your integrity and professionalism as a Dietitian. As you know, you only get one opportunity to make that first impression with your friends, clients and patients. A good first impression goes a long way to increase your credibility as a consultant.
So the question is: What is considered professional attire? HM Composite has a policy in our staff handbook on page 7. It states the following:
"Dress in a professional manner during facility visits, company business meetings and at the office. Although not mandatory, many Consultant Dietitians prefer wearing a clean, white lab coat. Closed toed shoes are recommended. A name tag provided by HM Composite, should be worn. Simple professional hairstyles are acceptable. Jewelry should be subtle. Business-appropriate slacks, blouses or shirts, dresses or suits are recommended."
The next question is: What is NOT considered professional attire? HM Composite employees should not wear any of the following: T-shirts, low cut blouses, too revealing or tight clothing, see through blouses (wear a tank underneath), sleeveless shirts and dresses (unless wearing a lab coat), nurses' scrubs, jeans, Capri pants (unless simple with no added pockets and zippers), short skirts, and shorts. |
Dear Dietitians; |
Hello everyone. I hope you are having a great summer so far. I wanted to take an opportunity this week as your guest editor to discuss dress code in the work place. I am in the process of updating the HMC Staff Handbook. Please complete this week's poll as your responses will guide the revision of our staff handbook. And, I have added some humorous questions to make you smile.
So, my question to you is: What impression do you want to make today?
