Responses from "RD Poll" in last issue...
..."Is there anything you would like to share with HMC management, RDs in the field or interns in regards to dietary surveys?...

Alena M:    Stay calm and project a sense of confidence. Being frazzled only makes it worse.

Lee T:      Surveys can be stressful, but they are a wonderful learning opportunity. Once you have experienced a successful facility survey, you are more sure of yourself as a LTC dietitian and better able to guide all your facilities in the future.

Judy M:    The state dietitians are making the staff unscrew the bottom of the blenders (even after being run through the dishwasher) and finding food debris under the gaskets and citing F371 for failure to clean and sanitize the equipment.

Annie F:   Make sure to periodically question CNAs regarding the appropriate procedures for documenting PO intake, meal refusals, etc to assure their answers correlate with the P&P. At three of my facilities, the surveyors asked the CNAs several questions regarding documentation of food consumed and how they offer alternates if meals are refused.

Thank you for sharing these valuable tips and suggestions!

Thank you for all your work. We hope you are enjoying the RD Newsletter.
