THE BRAGGIN DRAGON
MARCH 2010

Artist of the month: Frank Gehry

His buildings, including his private residence, have become tourist attractions.  Many  museums, companies and cities seek Gehry's services as a badge of distinction, beyond the product he delivers.

His best-known works include the titanium-covered Guggenheim Museum in Bilbao, Spanish Basque Country, Walt Disney Concert Hall in downtown Los Angeles, Experience Music Project in Seattle, Weisman Art Museum in Minneapolis in Dancing House in Prauge in Czech Republic and the MART Museum in Herford, Germany. However, it was his private residence in Santa Monica, California, which jump-started his career, lifting it from the status of "paper architecture," a phenomenon that many famous architects have experienced in their formative decades through experimentation almost exclusively on paper before receiving their first major commission in later years.

Career of the month: Architect

Calling all Architect's & Interior Designer's - We are looking for someone to give an awesome presentation for the month of March.  Please contact Renae or Loni to set up a day to come in and share!

Word of the month: Patience

"Renae with her Dad, her dog Sheba and a King Brown Snake"

Favorites:

Color: Pink

Book: "You Can Heal Your Life" - By Louise Hay - the first book I read that changed my life.

Movie: Brave Heart

Song: "Desire" by Deepak Chopra & Demi Moore - the song I listened to during Livi and my 5 year long distance relationship.

Animal: Benny The Bunny & Jackson the house cockatiel

Renae was born and raised in a small Aboriginal town (population 150) called Eumundi - in Queensland Australia. She lived very close to the late Steve Erwin "The Crocodile Hunter" and as a child would save and nurture sick wildlife and take to Steve's farm.  She recalls an occasion when her father came home holding up a Red Belly Black Snake and said"Kids if you ever see this snake, don't go near it.  It will kill ya!" As a child she was always the natural "ring leader". In her High School Yearbook when asked what they would give their students her English teacher Ms Hendy quoted "Nothing...Those legs of hers would take her anywhere she wants to go." and boy was she right!

Renae & Livinio married in Cuba and three kids later...

Renae is very dedicated to her role here at Camelot and said that her focus is to continue to support her staff and provide more opportunities for them to further educate themselves and ignite their passion and achieve their goals.   Renae is also currently working on adding to her already successful [bump] maternity line new "Indian/Henna" inspired designs with the help of artist extraordinaire Ms Loni due out this Spring.  www.bumpbabies.com

We love Renae and are so very blessed to have her at Camelot Kids!

 Dear Parents,

Please take a moment to go over all our updates.
IMPORTANT DATES

March 1, 2010: First Day of school for our new teachers and families

Effective: March 1, 2010 -

Due to the anonymous complaint that was made, we will making some changes here at Camelot. Listed below are things that we are requiring all families to do.

-          Please make sure that you sign your child in/out EVERYDAY. We will be implementing a $25 - fee for each time a family does not sign in/out.  In addition to our touch screen system, DSS wants signatures from each parent so there will be hard copies to sign as well.  We want to keep the open family feel when arriving in the mornings but if we feel parents are still "forgetting" to sign in, we will be forced to lock our lovely new gate and require all families to enter and leave from the office door only.  We feel by implementing this fee it will hopefully remind you all to do so.

-          Please be ON TIME.  We start circle time at 9am and it's very disruptive to each classroom when you are late.

-          Clearly label all items with your child's name.  This includes (nap blankets, sheets, pillows, sweaters and lunch boxes!!!). We will be charging all nap families a $15 sheet fee to ensure all children have one. We have purchased a bulk order of sheets which we will label for your child.

WE NEED YOUR PICTURES FOR OUR 2009/10 Yearbook Committee:

Our wonderful mommy (Mylissa Grieve) has offered to take on the enormous job of this year's yearbook, and we love her for it!!!  We ask that if you have pictures of any past events or classroom shots please email her @ mylissafitz@sbcglobal.net (This is if you have a few pictures to share). If you have more that a few, please burn them onto a disc and give them to her directly, or give them to Ms. Loni to pass along. The more we receive the better our yearbook will be.

Summer Camp 2010

Summer camp starts July 5, 2010 and goes through August 27, 2010. Please note that we are a year round program and will not be pro-rating families who leave for summer vacation.  Everyone is required to pay every month to secure your child's space for September enrollment. This is so that the staff can work their full-time schedules and to keep consistency throughout the program.

If you're a Big Dragon  we kindly request that you inform us by the 6th of March whether you are leaving the last day of school or planning on staying through to the end of summer camp so we can offer any available spots to our wait listed parents.

Thank You
