School board establishes tax levy
On Thursday, October 28th, the Board of Education of the DeForest Area School District established the tax levy for the 2010-2011 school year. The total levy, $21,543,415, represents a 8.49% increase over the 2009-2010 levy. Where does this levy amount come from and why is there an increase? There are a number of factors. The levy increase experienced by the community for 2010-2011 results primarily from the state legislative action to reduce the state's contribution to fund public schools, thereby shifting a greater burden to local taxpayers.
