2009-10 School-Business Donation List
The Chamber Education Committee has asked organizations and groups associated with the DeForest Area School District to let us know when and how they might solicit local businesses for donations this coming school year. Individuals representing these organizations may be contacting local businesses throughout the school year requesting monetary donations, volunteers and/or merchandise. The information on this list is being made available to you for two reasons:
- To help local organizations plan budget and time allocations, and
- To inform local businesses of legitimate organizations affiliated with the school district

DAHS Career Clusters Workshops
About 20 healthcare industry representatives participated in the high school's Health Services workshop on October 21. One healthcare participant remarked that "this was the most productive and meaningful interaction they have had with students to date."
New to DAHS this year, Career Cluster Workshops give high school students an opportunity to learn more about a variety of careers within one career cluster. [Not familiar with Career Clusters? Visit www.careerclusters.org for more information.]
The next workshop (Information Technology) is planned for November 23, with Business, Management & Administration on December 17. Details:
- One per month, October-April
- 2:20 - 2:35 pm - General overview presentation by high school staff
- 2:35-3:35 pm - Table discussions and interactive demonstrations
This is not an entire school event. Rather, only students with an identified interest in the chosen career cluster will be invited. The benefit to the presenters is that this will include only a group of students who really have a desire to learn about your career area. How Can You Help? Volunteer to host a table or booth and talk about your career or opportunities within your company related to this career cluster! Some ideas for your table: show a demonstration, share brochures or handouts, allow students to experience an activity related to your career field, present a short video, answer questions, etc. You don't need to create an elaborate presentation -- it will be a casual format with students moving from table to table.

Community Employment Workshop
On behalf of the Chamber Education Committee, Terri Kelso from Professional Employment Service, LLC, and Debbie Brewster from the DeForest Area School District, are presenting employment workshops for the community. A resume writing workshop was held last spring, and a job search workshop was held in October.
An "Interviewing" workshop is planned for January 20. All workshops are held at the DeForest Area Public Library. |
