Greetings!

May 27 is fast approaching, so we would like to take this opportunity to confirm some details for DeForest Area High School's third annual 12th Grade Reality Day.  See below for reminders and additional information as you prepare for the day.

First, please check the Volunteer/Station List.  Let me know if you have any questions or concerns.  Thanks again for volunteering!

Sincerely,

Schedule
Schedule

Set up will be available at Comfort Inn & Suites beginning at 7:00 am.  We ask that your station be ready to go by 8:10 am.  A brief orientation for volunteers will be given at 8:15 -- Draft of Volunteer Information.

Students will be bussed to the Comfort Inn & Suites (5025 Cty. Hwy. V, DeForest) in three shifts - 8:45, 9:20 and 9:55 am.  It will take approximately 2-2 hours to complete all Reality Day activities, with everyone finishing by 12:00.
Station Information
Convention

  • Your "station" will include chairs and a table, either 72" x 30" or 96" x 18".  Those stations where students are "required" to make purchases, or those who have large displays, will be given priority for the larger tables.  If you have a preference, please let us know as soon as possible.
  • Please feel free to bring displays, samples, incentives, promotional/educational materials and give-aways, banners, signs, table tents, etc. for your station.  Table clothes are provided.  Most stations will be set up around the perimeter of the conference center; however, items may NOT be placed on the walls.  We recommend table-top displays. There is limited space for floor displays.
  • Please let me know if you need access to electricity.
Process
Schedule

  • Student Checklist (draft) -- This is what students will use to document their station visits and purchases.
  • Students will arrive in groups of 60-70 and proceed immediately to see Uncle Sam and the Bank.
  • From there they will visit every station (you will be provided a "stamp" to verify their visit).  For some stations, they will be required to make a purchase.  For others, the purchase is optional.
  • New this year:  Each station will require one of four payment options -- check (you will collect their checks), automatic payment, online banking, or debit card.  The latter three will be recorded in their checkbook register with an appropriate code.
  • As students approach your station, please answer their questions, and help them make wise decisions based on their "life status" (includes monthly salary, marital status, children, loans, etc.).
  • There will be an SOS station for those students who need additional assistance.  Their goal:  To leave the Reality Day event with $0-$200 left in their checking account.
  • "Fate Cards," "Police Tickets", and "Health Alerts" will randomly present circumstances for students to deal with.

Raffle Prizes:  Students will have the opportunity to earn raffle tickets by investing their money.  We are in need of some raffle prizes! Please let me know if you are interested in donating a prize or funds from which we may purchase prizes.

Refreshments:  Coffee, juice, water, and snacks (prepared by students in our food service program) will be available for volunteers throughout the morning.

Parking:  We recommend that you park in the southwest parking area of the Comfort Inn & Suites, as it is closest to the Conference Center entrance.
