School district to hold Future Search Conference in February

The DeForest Area School District will host a "future search" conference February 26, 27, and 28, where nearly 200 community members will come together to share conversation, perspectives, and vision for the DeForest Area School District's future. Participants will represent parents, students, teachers, support staff, business, government, senior citizens, civic/social organizations and service providers who all have a stake in the school district. They will help to develop a vision that addresses the evolving needs of students and our community.

A leadership team representing the various stakeholder groups has been meeting since May to design the conference.  The team and Board of Education have finalized the goals of the conference:
  • Provide an opportunity for citizens to participate in a process of thinking and planning for our future.
  • Identify the issues and trends that shape our community.
  • Explore the knowledge, skills and attributes that will be necessary in order to be a responsible citizen, have a good quality of life, and be successful in 2025.
  • Identify ways that the DeForest Area School District can be effective in creating a learning environment that will enable our children to thrive in the future.

handThank you DMB Community Bank and the DeForest area community!

Thanks to the Lend a Hand program, many students in the DeForest Area School District will get supplies they need to succeed in school this year.

Many DeForest area community members took a "handprint" displayed at DMB Community Bank and then purchased items or donated money for a child in need. Over 300 items and $3,000 in donations for field trips and lunches were delivered to students this year.

We appreciate the generosity and efforts of program organizer Rhonda Gilbertson, DMB Community Bank, and the entire community. Many children and their families have been touched.
2008-09 solicitation list published

The DeForest Area Chamber of Commerce Education Committee has recently published their annual solicitation list that gives Chamber members a "heads-up" on potential solicitation requests from school-related organizations. The publication provides a summary of planned requests for money, volunteers and/or merchandise for the 2008-09 school year.

The list is compiled each year for Chamber members to help them plan their budgets and time. Being on the list does not automatically mean the request will be granted. However, it gives business people a "heads-up" on potential requests. While it will be published in print each fall, updates are available on the Chamber and school district websites: www.deforestarea.com and www.deforest.k12.wi.us.

For more information, contact the Chamber office at 846-2922 or the school district at 842-6581.

Adult School Crossing Guard Recognition Week
January 12-16, 2009
Join us in thanking Betty, Gilbert, George, and Judy, our dedicated adult crossing guards!  Consider the job they have and the often less-than-ideal elements in which they work.  They continue to help ensure the safe crossing of hundreds of our school children each day.
