Letter from Craig
President/CEO National Sports Center for the Disabled
Yes, this is a tough economy and many non-profits are struggling. The NSCD has been trimming expenses for the past year. In addition, all year round staff went to a short work week for the summer. We will make it through this challenge and continue to provide the programming and services that we are known for. Surprisingly, while our donors have been cutting back like everyone else, our events are doing well and providing a financial cushion that will carry over to next year. Even if you have to cut back your financial support of the NSCD, don't forget we have many volunteer opportunities. Financial storms come and go but volunteers make the difference in our operations and programs. Check out the opportunities at www.nscd.org. |

NSCD Supporter Raises money his own way
Early in the year, the NSCD received a call from Alex Parrillo from Denver who with no previous involvement with NSCD chose us to benefit from his efforts to raise money while participating in several triathlons and endurance races this summer. Alex told us that after many years of inactivity, he's come to appreciate and take advantage of his physical abilities a great deal in the last few years. He says, "Given that I've trained my body to race marathons and endurance-distance triathlons, I've decided to give back to others with disabilities by training and racing triathlon over 350 miles this summer while asking friends and family to donate to your great organization in recognition of my efforts." Alex has raised over $2,500 so far with a goal of $3,500 by the end of the summer - after 350+ miles he will have raced this summer! Check out his blog at www.gsadvrdr.com or to support his fundraising efforts, visit www.active.com/donate/350miles. Thank you Alex! |

Who are NSCD volunteers?
They come from all walks of life; they are teachers, construction workers, bankers, secretaries, students, nurses, and the list goes on. What they all have in common is a desire to have a positive impact in the life of a disabled person. NSCD volunteers universally agree that they receive much more from their volunteer experience than the time they give. It won't be long before there are students waiting for a volunteer ski or snowboard instructor to help them enjoy a wonderful winter experience. Won't you consider joining our dedicated group of volunteers for the 2009-2010 ski season visit www.nscd.org or call the volunteer office at 303-316-1546. |
Congratulations to Eric McCarty and his 12 year old son Cleveland who on July 24th reached their goal of summitting Long's Peak while biking to and from Boulder. They raised $2,000 for NSCD in the process - thanks guys! | |
