HELP PRESBYTERIAN DISASTER ASSISTANCE TELL OUR STORY
Two PDA produced documentaries set to air
Presbyterian Disaster Assistance has produced two documentaries that are to be released nationally this fall. The subjects are two major natural disasters occurring within less than a year: the 2004 Tsunami and Hurricane Katrina in 2005.
PDA needs your help to get the word out and encourage ABC and NBC affiliates to air these stories. They are tragic, gripping, and painful, but also filled with hope and love. And they aren't just the stories of the victims and survivors, they are OUR stories. We, as Presbyterians, played a major role in the recovery of those involved, and WE, as Presbyterians, need to get our story told.
Kepulihan: Stories from the Tsunami is available on ABC stations beginning in November. It follows three survivors over the four years following the December 26, 2004 tsunami, and it is told in their words. Coming Home: Hurricane Katrina Five Years Later is available on NBC stations beginning in September. It is centered on the efforts of volunteers who have been working non-stop to bring people back to their homes, featuring heavily the PC(USA). You can also download a brochure with more information about both special broadcasts, and it can be printed to share with your congregation.
It is up to us to tell our story to the nation about what great things the Presbyterian Church, USA, is doing in our world. For additional information, visit the PDA website.

GEORGIA INTERFAITH POWER & LIGHT INVITES YOU TO LUNCH
Event to be held in Savannah
Georgia
Interfaith Power & Light has invited our pastors to join them on Monday, August 30,
for a Clergy Luncheon in Savannah! This Luncheon will be held from 12:00-2:00 PM at Trinity United Methodist Church, which is located at 225 West President
Street in Savannah. Parking will be
available in The Robbie Robinson Parking Garage. Clergy are invited to attend this event to learn more
about Georgia Interfaith Power & Light (GIPL) and our new Power Wise program. Learn
how your congregation can access some of the $400,000 GIPL received for energy
efficiency programs in churches through Power Wise. This Clergy Luncheon is free of charge. Please remember
that this first educational luncheon is open to clergy only. If you are a lay
member of your congregation, please forward this email to clergy in your
congregation who might be interested in attending this event. Please register to
attend by emailing kpreston@gipl.org. Feel free to check
out our website, www.gipl.org, for more information about our
organization.
P.S. See the Presbytery News below to find out how one of our congregations has already received a grant with the help of this organization!

Interesting facts and information for churches.
"The State of the Plate & The View from the Pew"
It's no big secret that church giving is down, mostly because families are struggling to makes ends meet or are cutting expenses. In their second annual "The State of the Plate" and "The View from the Pew" surveys, Brian Kluth, pastor, author, and founder of
www.maximumgenerosity.org, and Matt Branaugh, Director of Editorial, Christianity Today International's Your Church have surveyed over 1,000+ churches and 1,000+ households to gauge church financial and giving trends in the nation.
The surveys have been highlighted in over
270 news stories/articles/interviews/TV news
reports, and on 2000 radio stations. They have also been published in two Executive Summaries.
Released in March 2010, the surveys have uncovered five very interesting major trends in both church giving and household finances and giving.
Church Giving - The poor economy is hurting a growing number of churches.
- Many churches say December year-end giving fell short.
- Some churches decreased their budgets while others increased budgets.
- More churches plan to preach and teach on finances and generosity in a variety of ways.
- More churches utilzing outside resources and guidance.
Household Finances & Giving - Incomes have flat-lined or
declined for 77 percent of households
- The majority of families
have everything paid off except for their house
- This recession is touching the lives of loved ones and
friends
- Tithing and generosity
start young and become a lifelong practice
- More Bible reading
increases giving and reduces debt
To read the findings in more detail, including statistics, or to order copies of the Executive Summaries of these two surveys, CLICK HERE. You can also read about this more in depth in the next "Presbytery Press", due out in September.
"Did You Know" provides helpful information and
facts regarding everyday church issues. To suggest a topic for this

NEWS FROM AROUND SAVANNAH PRESBYTERY
Skidaway Island PC Receives Energy Grant. On July 16th, SIPC learned that they were one of only eight churches to receive a Power Wise Energy Improvement Grant through Georgia Interfaith Power & Light. Their grant
application will serve as a model that other churches can use to
improve the stewardship of God's resources. Georgia Interfaith Power & Light (GIPL) works with faith communities to help them become active and responsible
stewards of God's creation. Though GIPL also provides a variety of
resources for congregations, our main focus is on helping congregations
save precious energy through energy efficiency and energy conservation. To learn more about GIPL, visit their website, or attend the Clergy Luncheon being held next week in Savannah (for clergy only; see story above).
Don't Miss the PW Fall Gathering! On Saturday, September 25, 2010, the Presbyterian Women of Savannah Presbytery will have their Fall Gathering at Henry Memorial PC in Dublin. Registration will begin at 9:30 AM. The cost is $6.00, and includes materials and lunch. For more information, contact your church's PW Moderator or call HMPC at 478-272-3721.
Learning to Minister to Our Troops and Their Families. Alan Baroody, Executive Director of the Fraser Center in Hinesville and Savannah Presbytery Minister Member, is co-leading a workshop on called "Care For
The Troops." It will take place Saturday, September 11, 2010, at St. Luke Episcopal Church in Rincon, GA, from 9:00-11:30 am, with lunch following. The event is open to clergy and lay leaders who are interested in ministering to
military veterans and families within their congregations. CLICK HERE for the flyer and contact information.
Prayer Concerns. Please keep the
following people and churches in your prayers:
