GA219: WHAT'S NEXT?
The 219th General Assembly of the Presbyterian Church, USA, is over. Those gathered spent over a week meeting, debating, and voting on items that will effect the entire denomination.
During their time at GA, our commissioners kept us updated on our presbytery's GA Page about what they were doing each day; you can also find there pictures, links, and news.
Now that the General Assembly has wrapped, the job goes to the presbyteries, who will be asked to vote on the amendments by next spring. Your church will begin to receive information this fall on our presbytery's voting process.
If you have the chance, make sure to thank our presbytery's representatives for the dedication and hard work they put into their time at GA: Minister Commissioner, Lou Ellen Hartley (First Brunswick); Elder Commissioner Wells Kilgore (Frederica); Young Adult Advisory Delegate Evan Garrett (Richmond Hill); Stated Clerk Russell Gladding; and Executive Presbyter Ken McKenzie.

Interesting facts and information for churches.
www.pcusa.org
The Presbyterian Church, USA, just unveiled the new denominational website, which is created to be more interactive than the previous website and provide a more dynamic web presence for the PC(USA).
If you haven't taken the time to explore the new website (or even the old one), or even if you are familiar with the contents, you may be pleasantly surprised at some of the things they have to offer individuals and congregations.
Here are some examples: -- The website lists contact information for each congregation in the denomination. Not only that, but if you check out your listing and information is out of date, missing, or incorrect, you can update it. Go there... --The website now has a clearinghouse of resources for churches. It's a one-stop shop for finding things like brochures, bulletin inserts, worship aids, publications, and much more. Go there... -- Looking for a seminary? You can find them all listed in one place, with links to their website and other useful information. Go there... --Want to make a donation to a certain organization or missionary within the denomination, but can't find the information? Find them all in one place, and you can even make your donation online. Go there... --You can subscribe to regular updates on the happenings involving the subjects and/or organizations that you are most interested in. Go there...
There is so much more to be found on the new website! Spend some time exploring at www.pcusa.org.

DO YOU SERVE COFFEE AT YOUR CHURCH?
If so you should be ordering it through the Presbyterian Coffee
Project.
The Presbyterian Coffee Project offers a special link between
congregations and communities around the world.
Churches can now reach
out to neighbors overseas not only with the prayers and offerings we
give, but with the goods and products we purchase. A warm cup of coffee
(or tea) in our hands is perhaps the most tangible daily connection we
have with farmers around the world. It represents warmth, hospitality,
fellowship, hard work and life's pleasures both fine and simple.
Buying
fair trade through the Presbyterian Coffee Project ensures that more of
the money we spend on coffee reaches the hardworking farmers who
actually grow it. To get more information or place and order, CLICK HERE. |
GET TO KNOW KAIROS
Help to those in prison.
Kairos
Prison Ministry International, Inc. is the parent organization of a
body of ministries addressing the spiritual needs of incarcerated men,
women and children, their families and to those who work in the prison
environment.
Kairos
is a ministry of the church ... a ministry of the apostles whom Jesus,
the Christ, has called into community and sent forth into the
environment of the correctional institution. Kairos has been called the
best example of the early church in existence today.
The Rev. Bob
Morgan, a PCUSA pastor working within our bounds, is involved in this
ministry, and invites you to be too. If you are interested in being a
part of Kairos, or just learning more about it, contact him at

NEWS FROM AROUND SAVANNAH PRESBYTERY
Hello and Goodbye. The Presbytery is happy to welcome a new pastor: The Rev. Trip McKinnon, who recently began his call at First PC in Waycross. At the same time we are very, very sad to say goodbye to Proctor Chambless, who will be leaving his pastorate at Henry Memorial PC to go to a two-church pastoral role in the Middle Tennessee Presbytery. We wish them both happiness and good fortune as they begin new chapters in their lives.
Are you interested in visiting the Holy Land? Rev. Andy Meeker, pastor at Wilmington Island PC, is part of a group going on a tour of the Holy Land, October 11-23. If you want to join this amazing journey, please contact him at 912-897-1840 or by email.
Hispanic Ministry need your help. A lot of time and resources must go into making a new program a success. This is true for our Hispanic Ministry Center at Swainsboro PC. The Rev. Ozeas Silva and his small congregation are working hard to grow this ministry, and they need financial assistance. If you or your church sees fit to help, please send your donation to the Presbytery Office marked "Hispanic Ministry at Swainsboro". Prayerfully consider how you can help this growing ministry and its small congregation.
Pastors, sign up for this! The Presbytery Pastoral Care Network is composed of a group of
ministry professionals and volunteers throughout the Presbyterian Church
(U.S.A.) who are concerned for or engaged in providing pastoral
care to ministers. PPCN provides support to the members by
offering them opportunities for continuing education,
fellowship, and professional accountability. You can learn more about the network by visiting their website. You can also subscribe to their monthly e-newsletter here.
Purchase The Unexpected Visitor, by the late Dr. N.B. Baroody. Father of minister member Alan Baroody, this book is the last project N.B. Baroody worked on, and was a sequel to his first
book of meditations and fine art black & white photography, The Journey (now out of print). The Unexpected Visitor, was released in April, and though Mr. Baroody never got to see the finished product, its content and message is a tribute to his life as a photographer, physician, and
follower of Christ. Many of the pictures are from the coastal regions of Georgia and South Carolina. This book is available for purchase online from The Joggling Board Press.
Prayer Concerns. Please keep the
following people and churches in your prayers:
-- The people, animals, and ecosystems affected by the Gulf Coast oil spill -- The new Hispanic Ministry currently being organized in Swainsboro, its leaders and new congregants -- Church Pastor Nominating Committees that are actively working to find a pastor
