Jimmy Hammock elected
33rd International President of
Phi Beta Sigma Fraternity, Inc.

President Jimmy HammockPhi Beta Sigma Fraternity recently elected Jimmy Hammock of Morristown, Tennessee as the fraternity's 33rd International President on July 9, 2009, during the 95th International Conclave in New Orleans, LA. The conference entitled theme, "Celebrating the Dream" convened fraternity members from across the globe for six days.
 
The Hammock administration's goal is to make Phi Beta Sigma synonymous with community service under the theme "Changing Lives Through Service."  "I'm a living witness that we can make great impact in the lives of communities and individuals because my life was changed dramatically because of the committed service of one person," shares Hammock.
 
Hammock, a native of Fordyce, Arkansas, is recently retired from ArvinMeritor, formerly Rockwell International, as Materials Manager after 29 years of service.  He graduated from the University of Arkansas at Pine Bluff  (UAPB) with a degree in Business Administration. Prior to attending UAPB, he attended J. E. Wallace High School in Fordyce, and received a full four year academic scholarship to UAPB.
 
He joined Phi Beta Sigma in December 1970 through the Beta Theta Chapter at UAPB. He is currently a member of the Phi Sigma Chapter of Knoxville, TN, Sapphire Life Member and Golden Life Member. He has served the organization in several capacities including international first vice president, international treasurer, regional director, state director and chapter president.
 
Hammock is married to Vicki Hammock, member of Zeta Phi Beta Sorority, Inc. and they have a son, Andre, who is also a member of Phi Beta Sigma Fraternity.
 
Phi Beta Sigma Fraternity was founded on January 9, 1914,at Howard University in Washington, DC by three noble Founders, A. Langston Taylor, Leonard F. Morse, and Charles I. Brown.  Armed with the motto Culture for Service and Service for Humanity, the brotherhood has grown to 150,000 college educated men operating in over 650 chapters in the continental United States, Korea, Germany, Asia, Africa and Japan.
 
The fraternity's Sigma Wellness programmatic initiative is an over-arching effort that seeks to build local communities and individuals holistically through Bigger & Better Business, Education and Social Action. Some of the organization's community service partnerships that help to fulfill that mission include the American Cancer Society, March of Dimes Foundation, Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, Boy Scouts of  America, and Thurgood Marshall College Fund.
 
Notable members of Phi Beta Sigma include: Congressman John Lewis, Rod Paige, Herman J. Russell, Blair Underwood, Emmitt Smith, Dr. George Washington Carver, James Weldon Johnson, A. Philip Randolph and Dr. Alain Leroy Locke.
