Phi Beta Sigma Fraternity, Incorporated
Announcement of the proposed
Alain Leroy Locke
Collegiate Honor Society
Saturday, May 23, 2009
 Greetings!

In Phi Beta Sigma, the name Alain Leroy Locke name is synonymous with scholarship. Howard University has a building named in honor of our Honorable Brother Locke on campus which further recognizes the dedication he had for academic achievement. At this time in our history, the Fraternity has an opportunity to establish an entity very special for our collegiate Brothers that will be perpetual in the area of scholarship.

Please read the letter from our only collegiate elected member of the General Board of Phi Beta Sigma Fraternity, Inc., Brother Steven Kniffley. Thanks for taking time to hear from him. Bro. Paul L. Griffin

Thanks so much.

Paul L. Griffin, Jr.
International President
Phi Beta Sigma Fraternity, Inc.

Brothers,

On behalf of the Collegiate Affairs committee, I would like to bring to your attention an exciting development especially created for our collegiate membership. At the February 2009 meeting of the General Board, at the request of our International President, the General Board took the first steps towards the establishment of a collegiate honor society. This honor society is named The Alain Leroy Locke Collegiate Honor Society. It will serve the purpose of recognizing Brothers who demonstrate high scholastic achievement.

Induction into this honor society will serve as the highest distinction a collegiate Brother can obtain during their collegiate years. Scholarship is one of the high ideals of our illustrious organization, and as such, it is imperative that we promote this ideal among our collegiate Brothers and alumni as well. The establishment of this honor society will help to fulfill the Fraternity's mission of promoting scholarship through the encouragement of high academic achievement. It is my hope that you will support this initiative at Conclave New Orleans by voting to establish it and help acknowledge our outstanding collegiate Brothers who excel in academics.

Thank you for your continued support of collegiate focused initiatives within Phi Beta Sigma.  Bro. Steven Kniffley

Fraternally,

Steven Kniffley
International Second Vice President
