August is National Back-to-School Month

Summer (and our ever-popular Summer Reading program) is drawing to a close, schools are stocking up on the latest textbooks, the old school bell has been dusted and polished. It must be National Back-to-School Month! Here are a few reminders for getting ready for the 2012-2013 school year.

  • Get the jump on homework assignments with our library databases, including Searchasaurus for Grades K-8 and Student Research Center for grades 9-12. The answers are within!
  • Visit the Rockaway Township Public Schools site to find schedules, required school supply lists, transportation info, and much more.
  • Need some tips on helping your kids with homework? Check out these Homework Tips for Parents from the U.S. Department of Education
  • Keep your mind healthy by reading, and your body healthy with these great sites from the United States Department of Agriculture's Back to School page.
  • Speaking of staying healthy, make sure you're up-to-date on all the health requirements for New Jersey students as listed by the NJ Department of Education.
  • In need of financial assistance? Learn more about school lunch and health care programs through USA.gov's Back to School page.

And remember, your library is here to help, whether that means locating that elusive book, finding the right information online, or providing the internet access you need to get your work done on time. Good luck in the new school year... We're sure our students, parents, teachers and administrators will accomplish great things!

Morris Habitat for Humanity Exhibit at the Library

Stop by during the month of August to see an exhibit from Morris Habitat for Humanity, in the library's large display case. Models, equipment, posters, and promotional
materials are included in this informative display.

Morris Habitat for Humanity works to provide "decent, affordable housing" to low-income residents. Their initiatives have included the building of affordable housing throughout Morris County, fundraising events and the operation of a retail shop, ReStore, which raises money for the construction, renovation and restoration of houses.

Contact the library to find out about upcoming exhibits and displays. The current display will run through the end of August.

New Digital Bulletin Board to Advertise Local Events

You may have noticed our new digital bulletin board, displaying upcoming programs and events, historical images, and library services, on a column near the Circulation Desk. Starting on September 1, the library will provide digital space for local non-profit clubs and organizations of a civic, cultural, educational or recreational nature to promote their events.

Contact the library's reference desk at 973-627-2344 or [email protected] to find out how to promote events on the library's bulletin board. The library's policies for bulletin board use apply.

Our current setup was assembled by reference librarian and tech expert Alexander Tretiak.
