Hibernia Branch Is Now Open!

A historic image of the Hibernia Branch

On July 2, the Hibernia Branch of the Rockaway Township Free Public Library reopened its doors to the public. Our normal hours, 9:30 am to 5:30 pm on Mondays and 1:00 pm to 9:00 pm on Wednesdays, have resumed. We hope you'll visit the building, which has been fully restored to its original 1869 appearance, at 419 Green Pond Road.

The building was originally a Methodist Church for miners living in the area. Through a grant from the Morris County Historic Preservation Trust, the exterior of the Library received a complete historic renovation. Joe Fiorilla, Director of Parks, Recreation and Welfare wrote this grant and the grant that provided for Phase One of the refurbishment of the Ford-Faesch House.

The interior of the Hibernia Branch was painted this year through the generosity of the Friends of the Rockaway Township Library, a major contribution from Christopher Lansey of Benjamin Moore Paint, and community service volunteers. The buidling interior has also been fully prepared for our grand reopening.

Twelve years into the 21st century, the Hibernia Branch is still being used by residents who borrow books, CDs and DVDs, and attend children's and teens' programs.

Good Luck to Head of Youth Services Lisa Sedita in Her New Job!

Head of Youth Services Lisa Sedita is moving on to an exciting new position with the Montclair Public Library! As Head of Children's Services, she'll be bringing her outstanding programming, outreach and collection development skills to a new environment.

An open house will be held on Wednesday, July 18. Everyone is invited to stop by anytime after 1 pm, wish Lisa good luck in her future career, and tell her how much she meant to you. You'll be missed, Lisa!

The Book of General Ignorance

by John Lloyd and John Mitchinson

"Everything you think you know is wrong," state the authors of this bestselling breakdown of so-called "common knowledge." Did you know that Roman emperors ordered the death of a gladiator with... a thumbs-up? That Robin Hood wore red tights? Find out more in this irreverent romp through history, science and culture.
