  • Greetings!

Do you have spring fever? It seems like we all have to do things in life that we don't really want to do. I know. I have been employed at jobs that were nothing but work! But we are all born with unique characteristics and gifts that are like seeds waiting for an opportunity to blossom and fill our life with passion.

I've heard this state of passionate living referred to as "living the authentic self." You know you're there when you no longer have feelings of inner resistance. You're in tune with yourself! You naturally jump out of bed to greet the day. You can look people in the eye unapologetically. You have energy and purpose to deal with the problems in your path.

First, it's important to develop a clear idea of what you desire to accomplish in life. During those times when it feels like you are not in control of your destiny; keep your eye on the goal! A rule to count on is that we are inevitably pulled towards what we fix our eyes upon.

I can truly say that Mystic Heroine Adventures has been a lifetime goal of mine. My desire has been to create art and stories that inspire women and young girls to live the creative, self-empowered life of their dreams.

My first book in the series, Cecile and The Spider Queen is now available for purchase. Book Two, Cecile and The Treasures of Belamor, will be available this fall. So, stay tuned!

    A Message from Princess Cecile
    Green Kite and Cloud

Hi! My name is Cecile, and I'm the Princess of Belamor.
Every year on the first day of spring the village holds a kite flying competition. You can imagine what an amazing sight it is to see the sky filled with hundreds of kites in every color of the rainbow. I was anxiously awaiting this year's competition.

My Chinese friend, Bo Jing, makes fancy kites shaped like dragons and butterflies. He works in the laundry at the castle where he hangs his beautiful kites from the ceiling for everyone to enjoy.

I asked Bo to make me a kite, and when I first saw it, I was thrilled! It was shaped like a boat with lots of sails to catch the wind. I was certain that I had a chance to win an award for the most beautiful kite.

The night before the competition, I was so excited that I could hardly sleep. Jerome had promised to be there, and for weeks I had been counting down the days. But when the morning dawned, I couldn't believe my bad luck! It was pouring rain! I stood at the window and searched the clouds for even a patch of blue, but there was none. I was terribly disappointed.

When Jerome arrived, I was in the library with Bo Jing, in front of a cozy fire. I had to smile when Jerome presented me with a box of dominos, one of my favorite games. We pulled a table close to the fire and before long we were locked in competition.

Bo kept score. It was a close race, but I finally won, ( - although Jerome and Bo Jing agreed to quit while I was still ahead!)

Bo disappeared into the kitchen. When he returned he was carrying a tray with steaming bowls of soup. "It's called Hot and Spicy Soup," Bo said. And believe me, it was delicious!

    Rainbow Ship

When we had finished eating, Jerome asked Bo Jing how he had come to live in Belamor.
"Would you like to hear my story?" Bo Jing said with a twinkle in his eye.
"You know how I love stories!" I replied.

Soon, I forgot about the rain outside as Bo's tale of adventure unfolded. He told how he had joined a rowdy crew of spice traders and sailed around the world. And as he spoke of the distant lands he'd seen, it felt like I was there. Then he described a big storm at sea that blew their ship off course. They landed on the the shores of Belamor and Bo Jing knew that he was home. When his shipmates sailed, he said fare-well and never left again.

"It's stopped raining, Princess," Bo Jing said. We all went to the window and saw a beautiful rainbow that stretched from one end of the sky to the other. "Thank you for a wonderful day," I said to my friends. "I had a great time too," Jerome grinned.

"Princess, you haven't opened your fortune cookie," Bo said. I broke the cookie open, unfolded the slip of paper and read out loud. "What seems unfortunate may turn out to be otherwise!" It was such a perfect ending to a perfect day, that we all began to laugh.

Cecile and I learned a new game. It's called, "Fortunately / Unfortunately." You need at least one other person to play. It's a lot of fun to make up a story together and see how it all turns out.

First, you will need a good starting line. Here are a few examples:
"Yesterday it was my birthday and-"
"When I woke up this morning I found that-"
Now, the next person must continue the story with a sentence that begins with "Unfortunately." Then, the next person will begin their line with "Fortunately--"
Keep switching between sentences beginning with "Unfortunately" and "Fortunately" until you decide that your story is done. You'll be surprised to see how funny it can be! Here's a short example:

I was walking to school, when--
Unfortunately, I realized that I had forgotten my back pack with my homework inside.
Fortunately, I had enough time to go back and get it.
Unfortunately, when I got home, the door was locked, and no one was home, and my key was in my backpack!
Fortunately, there was a window open.
Unfortunately, the window was on the second floor!

I'll stop the story there and let you finish it. I can tell that it's about to start getting really crazy!

    Cecile and The Spider Queen

"I loved the charming details in both the story and the illustrations. The chapter heading designs are particularly entrancing. Young girls will identify with Cecile's feelings and little Lily's spunk. The funny spider illustrations are even appealing for spider-phobes, as well as the notion of fashion-minded spiders sharing web patterns and lace designs. I also liked the fact that the heroine saved her well-intentioned prince charming. A good read, and I'm looking forward to sequels."
