Willamette Mission Event Schedule
Greetings!

Greetings!

This special edition of the Bugle Call is designed to remind you of some specific aspects regarding the upcoming Willamette Mission Event. Please note that anyone staying in modern camp at NCWC events must be a member of either the NCWC or a reciprocating organization!  It is a requirement of our insurance policy and our rules.  We will be checking membership or event cards in the modern camps.

I want to take a moment to introduce myself to you. A native of Pennsylvania and with at least four Federal great-great-grandfathers it comes as no surprise that I have been a member of a Union unit for the past 17 years - the 20th Maine to be exact - where I portray the wife of my husband, Scott.

My degrees are in History (M.A. University of North Carolina, so some Southern connections!) and I have spent most of my career teaching college-level history with a brief stint as a high school history teacher. Currently I run my own family history/genealogy business, specializing in US Civil War-era families and soldiers who served both North and South.

I would like to encourage any and all members to write and submit articles relevant to their interests and backgrounds. Please consult the Submission Guidelines athttp://www.nwcwc.org/newsletter.html  and feel free to email me at nw.kate@yahoo.com with any questions, comments, or ideas.

Looking forward to seeing you all at Willamette Mission!

Willamette Mission
Event Information

This year marks the 22nd annual event at Willamette Mission State Park! The dates are June 30 - July 2nd and I hope that you are making plans to attend. Set up day is Friday, June 29th with all camps in the same locations as last year. If you are not sure about where your unit camp will be please contact your commander.

We will again have parking assistance from the North Salem JROTC on Friday. PLEASE DO NOT BLOCK THE DRIVEWAYS. Vehicles that do so may be towed at owner's expense.

Our contract with the park allows us to have 75 people in modern camp. We will have a camp host who will make sure that people in this area are registered with the Parking Pass clearly displayed. The host will also check for membership cards. I WOULD LIKE ALL MODERN CAMPERS TO NOTIFY ME BY EMAIL OR PHONE (503-623-2102) or at Yankeebugler@hotmail.com. Please indicate the type of vehicle or tent and the number of people in your group so we know what to expect.

There will be selective pre-setup on Thursday (June 28th) by mounted cavalry units and sutlers who need additional time. You must clear this with me first using the contact information above. Sutlers will be allowed to bring vehicles back into the park between 6:30 - 7:00 pm to clear valuables from their tents ... then return in the morning from 6:30 - 7:00 am to return the merchandise. NO VEHICLES IN THE PARK OR CAMPS FROM 7:00 AM SATURDAY (JUNE 30th) - 4:15 PM ON MONDAY (JULY 2nd). Handicap parking areas (especially in the circular drive) will be enforced.

HORSES WILL NOT BE ALLOWED IN THE REGISTRATION OR SUTLER AREAS, NEAR THE PERMANENT RESTROOMS OR IN THE CIVILIAN CAMPS.

MAKE SURE THAT YOU BRING YOUR MEMBERSHIP CARD AND PARKING PASS.

PS - If you are from another organization such as the WCWA or CCWS then you MUST CONTACT the NCWC Battalion Commander under which you will serve by Friday, June 22 to confirm your attendance.

A Call For Auditions

If you have the interest, and more importantly, the skill to be one of our event announcers we want to hear what you've got!  The Club currently relies on me and two very reluctant back-up announcers, (by reluctant, I mean they really don't want to do it).  This is a call for auditions which will be held Sunday evening at the Willamette Mission event.

There will be several people evaluating the brief auditions and we will be looking for people who speak well in public, who can read information without sounding like they are reading, and can share the emotion and excitement of our hobby no matter how good or bad you feel that day.  Sound easy?  It's not.  The goal is to find a couple of talented individuals who can step in when scheduled or needed and be a quality part of what we offer the public. Usually the announcer also attends battle planning 1 hour prior to each battle to confirm unit participation and get any information from the Battalion Commanders they want shared with the public for that battle.  The

announcer also tells the public what is happening in the camps, our presentation schedule or any changes and basically interacts with them until the battles start.  Announcers must pass our
