Arts @ Large Celebrates 10 years of service to the Milwaukee Community

Arts @ Large celebrated 10 years of opening "Windows
" of creativity for Milwaukee students with its "My Window on the World" 10th Anniversary Gala on Wednesday, October 13th, at The Wherehouse in Milwaukee's Historic Third Ward.

The Gala featured nearly 150 windows painted as a part of A@L's "My Window on the World" project, in which many Milwaukee Public School students were asked to sketch designs of his or her idea of "the world". These different images, ranging from shapes to actual people, were traced and painted onto the windows, resulting in a variety of culturally unique and diverse images joined together.

windowsMany Milwaukee area leaders showed up to support Arts @ Large including U.S. Congresswoman
and A@L advisory board member Gwen Moore's Constituent Liaison Jessica Cavazos. "I just want to congratulate the staff for a Job well done," said Cavazos. "The event was wonderful and the kids did a fabulous job with the windows!"

The windows were a part of a live auction, emceed by artists Jacque Troy and Ken Williams, in addition to a silent auction and cash n' carry donation opportunity. The event served as a fund-raiser for the program to continue serving Milwaukee area school communities and artist educators.

Arts @ Large Kicks Off the School Year With the 2010/2011 Orientation

Arts @ Large brought together nearly 200 teachers, adiminstrators, after school providers and artist educators to the Milwaukee Art Museum to get the school year started off right and connect on ways to bring the arts into the classroom.

The annual event provided teachers with the opportunity to see the many talented artists and arts organizations this community has to offer. Artists and arts organizations were able to showcase themselves by

setting up booths with programming information, demonstrations and more.

This wasa wonderful networking opportunity for both teachers and the artist community, in addition to an introduction of the new schools joining the A@L program; those schools included Brown St. Academy, El Puente, Maple Tree, River Trail and Escuela Vieau.

"Thanks [Arts@Large] for the wonderful Teacher/Artist orientation gathering yesterday," said felt artist Jane Moore, "The connections are happening... I have already heard from a teacher at Cooper School- we had a nice visit yesterday and now hope to work together on a feltmaking project!"
