Hello!
There's still time to sign up for next Thursday's seminar. We will cover estate planning, especially wills, powers, and trusts. The featured guest witll be attorney C. Dan Campbell.
Come to this seminar to learn the elements of good estate planning, including creating and updating your plans, keeping your information up to date when it comes to your executors and the tax laws, powers of attorney, and beneficiaries. Is your will outdated? If you are incapacitated, will your loved-ones have to go to court to handle your affairs? Should you give a lot of money to a beneficiary all at once? These are the types of concerns that will be addressed on Thursday.
Please RSVP by responding to this email, calling the office at 940-692-6885 or filling out the RSVP form, and we will hold a seat for you. We have limited seating, so please RSVP soon.

Gary's Soapbox
Remembering Dr. Flavin
Recently, Dr. Michael Flavin, former professor of political science at Midwestern State University, passed away at the age of 69. In the last years of his life he battled Alzheimer's disease, robbing him, and the community around him, of a great and passionate mind.
I am sad to say that I only heard him speak a few times over the last 20 years, but each time was a treat. You see, Dr. Flavin was the most knowledgeable and fair presenter of electoral politics I have ever had the privilege to hear.
That doesn't mean that he didn't favor one side or another; quite the contrary-Dr. Flavin was very partisan in his beliefs. But he was not partisan in his discussions. What was refreshing is that he could see clearly the pros and cons of both sides of every political issue, could discuss them in both depth and clarity, and could do so with logic rather than emotion and facts rather than hype. That is so refreshing in these days of bile-spitting ultra-partisan politics playing out in both Washington and Main Street.
Dr. Flavin, you will be missed..

Are you a saver or a spender?
Most of us are a bit of both-being only one is illogical. Many of us would also save more given the chance. At least that's what you may think. However, several studies, as well as Gary's own personal experience, show otherwise. Read more...
If you want to do well, you've got to be willing to fail a few times in the process. I think that is why kids learn so much so quickly. They don't seem to have a fear of failing. They may cry a bit when they skin their knee, but then they get back on that bike, or up that tree, or into the game. And in the process they get better at it. How does this relate to business? Read more... Investment returns--everybody loves them. At least they love them when they are positive. But people being people, they get disappointed rather quickly. And some of that disappointment is mixing their expectations for absolute versus relative returns. Read more...

Does Washington have a spending problem or an income problem?
Certainly, these days, it depends who you ask, as the answer usually falls within party lines and opinion. To try and understand the debate outside of those forces, FactCheck.org offers this report with some key facts on spending and revenue. Read More...

Yep. Here in Texas, it's still very hot. How hot? Well...
- The birds have to use potholders to pull worms out of the ground.
- The potatoes cook underground, and all you have to do to have lunch is to pull one out and add butter, salt and pepper.
- The trees are whistling for the dogs.
- We've learned that a seat belt makes a pretty good branding iron.
Stay cool, and have a great week!
