The Little Space on the Left |
We often use this spot for some humor, a few quirky facts, or a quote or two.
But we got to wondering, does anybody read this? Would anybody care if it went away?

As I write this, I'm holed up in a hotel room in a distant city. Those who see me wandering the cavernous halls probably think I am on vacation. And as I walk past those solitary men and women I wonder just how many of them are working, on vacation, or doing both.
You see, we Americans are known for being lousy vacationers. Some of this has to do with time. The French get 38 days a year, on average, for vacation. Italians get 31. Ah, but they always seem so laid-back. Perhaps, but Germany and Britain, neither known as party animals (except in October) take 27 and 26 days respectively. Even work-a-holic Japan gets 15. We in the United States average 13.
Even if some of my fellow hotel patrons are enjoying some time liberated from the workplace, they are not easily separated from work. Cell phones and laptops make sure of that.
What am I doing here? This is where I hide to write my seminars and articles. I do see some sights and eat at some nice restaurants, but this definitely ain't no vacation.
And sadly, I love it.

Quick Note |
Attention Personal Money Planning Clients |
Keeping Your Files Current
Personal Money Planning has established an annual reminder for our clients to verify and update their beneficiary information for their IRA and Roth accounts. If you have your paperwork, take a moment to check that all information is still current. Otherwise, to verify who is listed as beneficiary for your account, call us at the office and we can check for you. It may be necessary to make changes to your beneficiary because of life-changing events (marriage, divorce, new child, for example). If this is the case for you, contact us and we will send you the beneficiary change form.
Tax Information
If you have not done so already, please send or drop by a copy of your current tax information to our office. Before we know it, tax season will again be upon us, and we like to be prepared for any questions you may have.
The office number is 940-692-6885. If you have any questions about supplying us with beneficiary or tax information, or anything else, give us a call.

Internet's Virtual Boundaries
How will the walls going up by governments and individual websites impact the free-wheeling information sharing that the Internet is known for?
What's next for the Internet?
This article looks at the future of the Internet and suggests it would be bad news if it became a collection of proprietary islands accessed by devices controlled remotely. If the Internet loses too much of its universality, it could fall apart the way global trade sometimes collapses if there is too much protectionism. http://www.economist.com/node/16941635 |

parting thoughts
What the Class of 2014 Doesn't Know
Most students entering high school this month were born in the same year that saw The Silence of the Lambs win Best Picture at the Oscars, the acquittal of four LAPD police officers accused of excessive force against Rodney King (followed by the Los Angeles riots), and Jay Leno's first year as host of the Tonight Show.
If you know a teen who doesn't understand what you are asking for when you point at your wrist, this list may be of interest to you. Every year, Beloit College releases the Beloit College Mindset List, a snapshot of the world our leaders of tomorrow live in. You may be surprised how different it is from yours.
Enjoy! |
