Universal Laws
(humor) |
|
The Variation Law - If you change lines (or traffic lanes), the one you were in will always move faster than the one you are in now (works every time).
The Law of the Bath - When the body is fully immersed in water, the telephone rings. When sitting on the john, this is known as Law of the Toilet.
The Law of Close Encounters - The probability of meeting someone you know increases dramatically when you are with someone you don't want to be seen with.
The Law of the Result - When you try to prove to someone that a machine won't work, it will.
The Law of Biomechanics - The severity of the itch is inversely proportional to the reach.

Extraordinary Service |
Turning the Ordinary into the Extraordinary
October is Customer Service Month (who makes these things up?) so I thought I'd share an episode of good customer service. After all fair is fair, as I am not shy commenting on times I experience poor service. Back in June, I was attending a week-long workshop that was being held at the Dallas Hilton at Lincoln Centre. I remember that trip because 1) the workshop was pretty good, and 2) the customer service at the Hilton was outstanding. From even before my check-in through my departure I could find no errors.
Learn what I experienced and maybe you can apply the lessons to your business. Here's the article:

Taking Pictures From Space |
You can do it for $150 and some pizza
The title below tells the story. Want to get a picture from space? Call a couple MIT students, give them $150 (and probably some pizza) and you're all set. I wonder if the FAA has anything to say about this?

Supervisor Boot Camp |
Featuring Penny Miller
This is a one-day crash course in the basics of supervision.
About a third of my readers don't live near here and many of the others already know Penny. For the rest of y'all, I can highly recommend Penny's courses. If you or someone you know is relatively new to supervising others, this course is for you. If you haven't had any formal training, but had to learn on the go, this will help fill in the gaps.

Saving Healthcare Dollars Now |
You may have heard a bit about health care costs over the last year. I have no idea what Congress is going to end up doing--so why wait?
There are things that can be done now to save health care costs. One of which, Jackie Spragins talked about in a Times Record News article a month or so ago. For those of you who missed it, she's allowed me to print it below:
GETTING HELP FOR PRESCRIPTION DRUGS By Jackie L. Spragins, RHU
I recently learned about a prescription program that I wanted to pass along to readers. The program is called Partnership for Prescription Assistance. This program helps low-income uninsured patients get their prescription for free for nearly free. How it Works - Know the names of the prescriptions you take. Then call the toll free number (see below). Once you give some basic information related to prescription medicines, income, and current prescription medicine coverage, a trained specialist will be able to tell you what patient assistance programs you may be eligible for. Who is Involved in the PPARx Assistance Program - The program brings together America's pharmaceutical companies, doctors, patient advocacy organizations and civic groups to help. The mission of the group is to increase awareness of and enrollment in existing patient assistance programs for those who may be eligible. Who Qualifies - Each patient assistance program has its own eligibility criteria. You would have to complete a step by step process to see if you qualify. What if I Have Other Prescription Drug Coverage - You may still qualify for some assistance. The available assistance programs vary from program to program and may even vary by medicines within a program, depending upon several factors related to income, medicines, resident state, age, etc. Once a patient is informed that they may qualify, the patient must then use the contact information given to him/her by PPARx to contact the assistance program and apply. So, it does take some action on the part of the patient to activate the free or nearly free prescriptions. However, this program coordinates information to be able to successfully find a program or programs that fit the patient's needs. This is a free service. There are some other companies who charge a fee for patients to find an assistance program, but this one does not. So, please make sure you visit PPARx's website (www.pparx.com) or call their toll free number of 1-888-477-2669.
Please spread the word if you know of someone who might need help with this. I have a few brochures in my office, so if anyone wants one, please give me a call at 761-4555 or email me at jackies@atmdinsurance.com.
That's all for now.
