YMCA Aftercare Parent
Sometimes in life, we all need a little help to get by.  For Anayudi Cabrera, 40, the YMCA of Greater Miami provides that much needed assistance.  Anayudi (shown to the right with son Spencer) is a full-time parent, and a full-time medical secretary.  She is also a single mother.  Her son, Spencer, 8, has attended the YMCA Afterschool Program at Snapper Creek Elementary in Miami since he began kindergarten in 2007.
"The YMCA is the best thing that has ever happened to me," said Anayudi.  "Spencer loves it.  The staff is great.  The program is excellent."
Anayudi currently receives a partial scholarship thanks to the YMCA Strong Kids Campaign that ensures Spencer can continue to attend the YMCA Afterschool Program he enjoys so much, and without which Anayudi would not have anyone to leave him with while she works.  She has been receiving this assistance for about a year now, and continues to be thankful for the help. With Spencer in the YMCA Afterschool Program, Anayudi can earn a living for the two of them with the peace of mind that he is safe, comfortable and entertained.
"When I first put Spencer in the Afterschool Program at Snapper Creek, I didn't know financial assistance was available, so I was paying the full program fee," said Anayudi.  "At one point, I had to take him out of the program for about three months, because I just couldn't afford it. Thankfully, my mom was visiting for a while from the Dominican Republic where she lives, and was able to take care of him for me."
Once Anayudi learned about the financial assistance the YMCA provides to ensure that no child is denied participation in a program due to an inability to pay, she immediately applied, was accepted, and was able to enroll Spencer back into the program where he is safe, happy and well taken care of during afterschool hours.
"It's a great help to me," she said. "Like I said before, the program and the staff are great, and the kids really seem to enjoy it. I think Spencer likes it there more than he does at home! I am 1000 percent satisfied with everything YMCA."

Please help other children like Spencer by giving to the YMCA's Strong Kids Campaign, and Donate Now.
