Notes From VIPAR Annual Meeting
Vegas Strip

The 2008 VIPAR Heavy Duty Annual Business Conference was held on October 19-24 at the JW Marriott Las Vegas Resort & Spa at Summerlin in Las Vegas, Nev.  The VIPAR Heavy Duty Annual Business Conference brings together VIPAR Heavy Duty distributors, supplier partners, and industry associates to facilitate the productive exchange of ideas and information benefiting all participants.

"Our Business Conference is an opportunity to collaborate on industry challenges and opportunities with the knowledge and expertise of our stockholders and the industry's leading suppliers,"  said Steve Crowley, president & CEO, VIPAR Heavy Duty.  "The trade show, one-on-one meetings and general session provide plenty of opportunities for stockholders and suppliers to interact, which is beneficial to both parties."

Conference events included:  general sessions, break-out meetings, the annual stockholders meeting, tradeshow, one-on-one stockholder/supplier partner meetings, as well as various other business programs.  Registration materials were mailed to all VIPAR Heavy Duty shareholders in early June.  The event kicked off with a welcome reception on Sunday, October 19 and concluded with the Annual Dinner on Thursday, October 23.  John Sadler, President and Dave Paulsen, Operations Manager attended the meetings this year.

Tech Tip: Winter Battery Maintenance
WINTER

Winter weather is tough on a truck, but it is the battery that suffers the most when the temperatures drop. Your truck's battery loses 33% of its power when the temperature dips below freezing and over 50% of its power when the temperature falls below zero.

Fortunately, performing proper battery maintenance can help you avoid getting stuck when the weather turns cold. Sadler Power Train suggests that drivers follow these guidelines to help their batteries survive the winter:

* Clean your battery's terminals -- Imagine trying to drink out of a straw while you're pinching the middle of it.  Well, that's what it's like when your truck's battery has corroded terminals.  The corrosion keeps power from flowing freely from the battery, reducing the power that is available to start the truck.  To avoid this, clean your battery terminals with a wire brush (available at Sadler Power Train, Tectran part #5032) or pick up some Permatex battery cleaner (available at Sadler Power Train, part # 80369) on the terminals.

* Give your battery a good check-up -- If your battery is three years old or older, you should have it tested to make sure it can survive the coldest winter months.  And don't forget to have your battery tested before you take a long trip or after it's been recharged.

* Be smart when you jump-start -- If the battery fails, and you need to jump-start your vehicle, be sure to follow the vehicle manufacturer guidelines.  Jump-starting incorrectly can be dangerous and can damage the vehicle's electrical system, so always exercise caution when working with the battery and other electrical components.
