Happy Holidays From Be The Change!
|
Wow, is 2011 already coming to a close? Was that the fastest year in recollection?!
It's almost surreal, surfing the wave of The Great Turning. Big system exploitations like the Tar Sands seem to lumber on through the holding actions. But on the micro level, our little office is buzzing with so many positive gains in the communities and schools that the days fly by and every week we celebrate another victory. The cells are transforming from within the belly of the beast! This is joyous work, rallying the champions of change and watching the global mind shift actually happen, one simple choice at a time.
Thank you for your encouragement and support this past year. It helps us so much. We have three loving wishes for this festive season - wishes that will help us, help others, and help you too!

Wish #2: Save Your Money, Save Our Energy, and Support Be The Change
Join Team Power Smart
|
Be the Change values conserving our natural resources. Did you know that we waste so much energy, our hydro powered province has to import dirty energy from Alberta & California during evening peak hours? We can do better than that!
Here's the four-step plan to make a difference:
1. Join Team Power Smart and make a pledge to reduce your energy consumption by 10%.
2. Use the bechange1 promo code when registering so that BTCEA gets props from PowerSmart, who are supporting our community outreach program.
3. You get a $75 cheque from BC Hydro at the end of the year if you reach your 10% reduction goal!
4. And in the spirit of reinvesting in the movement, if you donate your $75 to BTCEA you save on your taxes with a charitable tax receipt!
Not bad really - with one click you can reduce dirty energy consumption, save money off your energy bill, show support for our community program, and at the end of the 2012, you might become a philanthropist! That's a home run :-) Reducing your energy bill by 10% is EASY! Our Action Guide is full of great tips, and Team Power Smart gives you access to power-tracking tools to help monitor and reduce your energy consumption.

Wish #3: Back A Winning Team!
|
Our Student Leadership in Sustainability program is taking off in leaps and bounds. The teachers love the A/V materials, lesson plans and easy delivery. The students love the solutions based-activities that give them hands-on actions for global issues. They are taking the materials home and teaching their parents. It's working!
We were set to deliver to 10 schools and we're already in 17! ...But our gallant little crew is over capacity. With your support we can bring one more champion on the team, train university students to deliver the assemblies, and get the SLS curriculum materials into all the high schools next year.
Please make your donation to Be The Change and back a winning team during this special season of giving - you can donate easily online by clicking the "donate" link on our homepage!

Call to Action: From Here To There: Food, Energy, & Resilient Communities |
Date: Wed, December 7
Time: 5:00-7:30pm
(Doors open at 4:30pm)
Location: Museum of Vancouver (MOV)
Cost: By Donation
The Vancouver Food Policy Council, Village Vancouver Transition Society, Be The Change Earth Alliance and others invite you to the MOV for a community visioning event that encourages people to think about the future of food in Vancouver, especially as cheap energy sources peak and climate change intensifies.
An Energy Descent Action Plan is a visioning process that outlines steps to help move us from being a high energy to low energy use region. Specifically, it sets out to collaboratively articulate a vision for a "powered-down, resilient, re-localized future", as well as outline practical steps and actions for getting there. The plan is meant to be a user-friendly, inclusive and practical document for both local government and the community.
If you are a student, change and policy maker, related organization, or just interested in food activism and community building, then this event is for you!
