Multifaith Reflections - August & September, 2011

Dear Friends,

The new programming year for MAS has started off with a bang, and it's shaping up to be a busy one. We enjoyed participating in the very successful children's interfaith day camp at Northwood United Church. Over 30 children from different faiths participated, learning about 5 different religions through story telling, crafts and play.

Participating jointly with the Church of Latter Day Saints, and Surrey's Sikh Community in the BC Thanksgiving Food Drive, we helped raise over 10,000 lbs of food in Surrey's first year of involvement!

Along with Surrey Neighbouring Faiths, Guru Nanak's Free Kitchen and Guru Nanak Sikh Gurdwara, MAS held a "Children Making Lunches for the Homeless" event which proved very successful. We are in the process of organizing similar events in the future.

We held our Annual General Meeting on September 26th in Vancouver. We reviewed the past year and charted a course for the remainder of 2011 and 2012. We welcome the following new board members:

  • Ali Ameli, Muslim
  • Gretchen Jordan-Bastow, Baha'i
  • Tim Scorer, Christian

Moving forward, we are very excited about the launch of our 2011-2012 Multifaith Socials Program, taking place this Sunday, October 23rd at the Northwood United Church in Surrey. Scroll down for all of the details, as well as some information on other wonderful multifaith events taking place over the course of the next month. I look forward to connecting with you at an upcoming event.

Sincerely,

Sukhvinder Vinning

Vice President
